Last night on Fox News, host Sean Hannity sat down with right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh to discuss Limbaugh’s “general thoughts” of President Obama and his new administration. Limbaugh seemed agitated at the fact that “a lot of people right now just — they’re absorbed in the historical nature of this, first black president and so forth.” “That is wonderful. That’s great,” Limbaugh said. “But I got over that months ago after he won the election.”

Limbaugh kept going with the racial theme throughout much of the interview. “He’s not black…he’s a human being,” he said. And while he claimed that the “drive-by media” only “care that he’s black,” Limbaugh added, “The fact that he’s African-American, his father was black, to me it’s irrelevant.” But Limbaugh later revealed what seems to be the true nature of his feelings on Obama’s race:

LIMBAUGH: We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president.

Rush was one of the few (at the time) RW talk shows where nuts could vent about Clinton. Rush would be nothing now were it not for Clinton. 	Rush Limbaugh has gained desired notoriety of late by stating
that he hopes Barack Obama fails.  I think I understand where
he is coming from because I felt the same way eight years ago.
 And as the next four years went by, I felt more and more
strongly.

	Although I am a Texan, and a lawyer, I was appalled that
George W. Bush was handed the Presidency by a Supreme Court
containing several Reagan and George H. W. Bush appointees. 
Thinking about who and what “W” represented, I concluded that
I wanted him to fail.  The reasons were many, and I encourage
anyone to add to them:

	Bush became President not because he was accomplished, or
talented, or hard working; he became President because he was
a son of wealth and privilege: so yes, I wanted the promotion
of privilege over merit to fail.

	Bush flouted his Christianity, and millions upon millions of
Americans were blinded to his contradictions, foibles, and
weaknesses because of his profession of faith: so yes, I
wanted the elevation of blind faith over thoughtful
citizenship to fail.

	Bush joked about the fact that his “base” were the wealthy
and the politically powerful:  I wanted a person who saw
government as a tool for the wealthy and privileged, rather
than the common American, to fail.

	By the same token, Bush was a champion of large, powerful
corporations, believing that government regulation was an evil
to be avoided: so yes, I wanted government of the people, by
the corporations and for the corporations to fail.

	Bush’s foreign policy was based upon arrogance and the use of
force uncoupled with real diplomacy or concern for the
opinions and friendship of other leaders and nations: so yes,
I wanted arrogant short-sighted foreign policy to fail.

	Bush never seemed to have respect for the scientific method,
and saw science as a tool to be subverted to ideology: so yes,
I wanted a man who would misrepresent scientific truth, rather
than employ science to seek truth, to fail.

	I could go on and on . . .

	But here is where Rush and I disagree, the flip side. 
Because, for example, Obama represents merit (intelligence,
accomplishments, and hard-work, particularly from humble
beginnings), Rush must want the triumph of merit over
privilege to fail.

	Because Obama represents the elevation of science as a tool
in the search for the right policy, over science as authority
to be manipulated and misrepresented in support of policy
already chosen, Rush wants good science to fail.

	Because Obama believes in diplomacy and international
cooperation rather than arrogant unilateralism, Rush wants the
efforts of this administration to make friends
internationally, and restore America’s good name throughout
the world, to fail.

When I hear liberals complain about Bush, they tend to give a laundry list of various actions and policies Bush has been responsible for and the personal insults are sprinkled in between. For righties though, I rarely hear them point to a specific issue that they don't like, they just attack the person.

Unfortunately, the few times I've pressed someone who doesn't like Obama on why they don't like Obama, it came down to either race or religion because they wanted to think he was Muslim. If they're afraid to speak out against someone out of fear that others will think they're racist, maybe it's time for them to sit down and really think through WHY they expect others to jump to this conclusion.
