Republicans Playing Politics: Block Holder Vote
by BarbinMD
Wed Jan 21, 2009 at 01:54:26 PM PST

Flaying about to show their relevance, Republican Senators blocked a confirmation vote on Attorney General-designate Eric Holder until next week.

This politics-as-usual garbage was led Arlen Specter, in an effort to take President Obama "down a peg," and today John Cornyn jumped in, objecting to Holder's assertion that waterboarding is torture:

2. Specter...
Specter would be wise to know that the NSA has every thing he has ever communicated on record.

3. This is the lawyer who played a huge role in the coverup of the JFK
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 05:43 PM by defendandprotect
assassination -- taking the lie of the wounds and turning them into a "magic bullet" . . .

This is the lawyer who was threatening witnesses to JFK coup -- like Jean Hill and others.

This is the "lawyer" who did violence to witnesses like Anita Hill in the Clarence Thomas

hearings -- with lies, distortions and every other kind of vile move.

This is also the guy who was recently trying to cut $1 billion from Medicare --- !!!

Specter isn't fit to serve in elected office and we need to usher him out by contesting

him HONESTLY with truth about his history in the Senate his work for murderers.

4. Day Fucking One
Here we go. Republicans make Obama prove his love for "post-partisanship" on Day One. Will he reach out and cave? It was his idea so it falls on him to make the biggest moves to show that it can work. (of course they have no interest in its success) If he won't cave then "post-partisan" is a dead letter, a word without a thing beneath it; and the norm will instantly reassert itself.

I have a simple attitude toward the Republican Party. I welcome their hate.

5. I just filed a complaint with his office.
As Sen Leahy stated, someone who voted to confirm Alberto Gonzales should have no issue with Eric Holder.

6. Next time you contact his office
You might remind Sen. Grandstand what happened to his protege and acolyte, Gordon Smith, in his last election run.

14. I don't know if it was so much a formal connection
But Smith really seemed to have taken a page out of Specter's book: Grandstanding for the folks back home on an issue or a bill, looking all bipartisan and reachy across the aisle. But when the vote was taken, he was always a solid Republican vote.

17. I haven't mentioned Gordon Smith.
I do remind him of the fact that he needs Democratic votes to remain in the Senate.

(thanks to the suggestion above)

Alberto Gonzales is okay, but Eric Holder is not?

Were you not listening when the President said it's time to end the silliness?

The change we voted for was a change the way business is conducted in DC.

11. Perhaps Sen. Cornyn could demonstrate why waterboarding is not torture
by submitting to it on the floor of Congress for all to see that it is nothing bad at all.

I'm used to being pissed at Arlen Specter, but this really has me seeing red. So pointless, so predictable. Dementia in office.
