Norm Coleman Returns To Senate As Non-Senator

Former Sen. Norm Coleman of Minnesota is on Capitol Hill today meeting with his erstwhile colleagues.

"I'm hopeful I'll be back here," said Coleman as he entered the Senate's LBJ room for a lunch meeting with the Republican conference.

His Democratic opponent, Al Franken, has been declared the winner of the Minnesota contest but has yet to be sworn in as court battles continue. Coleman said that the court struggle has been extremely expensive and that he's continuing to raise money for his legal fund -- but wouldn't be doing so during the meeting.

Coleman will be spending the day, he said, doing one-on-one interviews with Washington-based reporters to update them on the situation in Minnesota.

Coleman wouldn't say how much longer the court battle will continue. "We'll see how that plays out," he said. "I hope it's quick."

8. The thing that bothers me is this... Al WON, and yet he's just having to hang back
and blend into the woodwork.. HE should have been a part of the whole gala event yesterday.

The perception of his win, is fading for most people, since he's nowhere to be seen...and here's former senator Chiclet out there pressing the flesh and pretending to be coming back..

It may be hubris & delusion on his part, but consider the plight of Burris... Had Burris just held back , waiting, he would not be seantor Burris now..

Al & Co were VERY forceful in the immediate aftermath, and the attendant media surrounding their efforts kept up the pressure...and it helped him..

Now, he's apparently won, but day by day, he fades a little more..

I wished that Al would have shown up around the time of the swearing in, and would have at least gone on tv a little and claimed the win..

Peception is reality, in politics.... Ask Al Gore..

"I hope it's quick." Coleman

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Al Franken's legal team is arguing that Minnesota law allows the Democrat to get an election certificate to join the U.S. Senate.

In a brief Tuesday, Franken's lawyers say that's because state law specifically mentions such a certificate could be revoked if a lawsuit overturns the results of a recount. Republican Norm Coleman is pursuing such a lawsuit.

Last week Franken asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to overrule decisions by Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie to deny Franken an election certificate until Coleman's lawsuit is settled.

Coleman has until next week to respond to Franken's arguments ...

14. Perhaps he'll have to be "walked off."
Isn't that when your fired but the company has someone stay with you while you clean out your desk, then walks out with you to make sure you don't vandalize or steal anything?

Or is it called "walked out?"
