Bill would bring beer into Nebraska parks
LINCOLN -- Nebraskans could bring their coolers out of hiding and pop open a cold one in state parks if a bill proposed Tuesday becomes law.
Legislative Bill 478 would reverse a 14-year-old ban on consuming alcohol on land owned by the Game and Parks Commission.
State Sen. Kent Rogert of Tekamah, who sponsored the bill, said he sees the measure as a way to promote tourism. The current ban discourages people from making use of Nebraska parks, he said.
"I like to take advantage of our state parks and so do my friends,'' he said. "We also like to have a beer or two, so we go to Missouri or Iowa. I think a lot of people go other places because of it.''
