LMAO . . . the latest in Freeper paranoia
"Will it become a crime to criticize "The Messiah"? After observing the collective psychosis of the MSM the past few days (especially my local rag, the Ventura County Star)which has equated the inauguration of Obama with the immaculate conception, I am wondering if dissent of the government and, especially, Obama will now put me on a "Suspect List" and make me subject to questioning by the authorities and, perhaps, subsequent arrest.

I used to write letters to the opinion section of The Star taking a pro-conservative line. But now, after viewing editions of The Star over the past few days that would have made Joseph Goebbels green with envy, I'm wondering if I should curtail my letters of opposition to all things Obama and all things liberal.

Am I being too paranoid, fellow FReepers?"

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2168870/posts

So let me get this straight . . . for the last 8 years, they called anyone a traitor who said ANYTHING against the FORMER (oh how I love to type that) occupant of the White House, but now, they're afraid that someone might say the same of them?

These folks have truly lost all semblance of sanity.

17. Hopefully those will be abolished.
Hate to point this out though...the "free speech zones" were invented by Clinton to keep the freeper-types at bay in the first place.

2. It's no weirder than the paranoia on the left from people who were afraid Bush wouldn't leave office
That he'd declare martial law and cancel the election, or some other such nonsense.

11. Yes, much like the paranoia of him
illegally invading a sovereign country who had done nothing to deserve being invaded and occupied. What nonsense to ever believe such idiocy.

21. You're overlooking the obvious
Bush did leave office on schedule, and made no effort whatsoever to prolong his tenure in office.

14. The only difference being . . .
Bush had a track record of heinous unconstitutional activity. Obama hasn't been in office 48 hours.

4. In this case a little paranoia could be a good thing.
Hopefully there will crawl back under a rock somewhere and hide for the next 8 years or never come out again at all.

16. They're classic bullies
They love to dish it out - provided they're safely protected, i.e., behind keyboards and anonymity - but once it becomes even remotely possible that they might get a taste of what they've been slinging, they go all crybaby and fold.

15. Freepers never get irony
The laughability of one of them thinking it could become a "crime to criticize the Messiah!" They thought it was treason to criticize der Chimpenfuerhrer.

Their "Messiah" BS is pure projection. They do it, so they think we do.

25. I believe the psychological term is called Projection
These people have attempted to halt free speech (especially criticism of the Bush regime) at every turn, so they assume that since they are no longer in power, the other party will user their new-won power in the same manner.

This is the same mindset that gives us torture at Guantanamo, warrant-less wire-tapping, and anti-Gay marriage ballot measures.

The reality will in fact be far worse for our neo-con brothers and sisters. We (Liberals) will govern with fairness, pragmatism, & wisdom as our watchwords. It will prove that their "trust no one" "me me me" mindset is a truly failed philosophy.

26. My answer to this Freeper:
Relax, buddy. The answer is no, it's not going to be a crime to criticize President Obama. In fact, it shouldn't be a crime to criticize any President, which is pretty much what we (you know, the liberals you despise so much?) have been saying for the past eight years. And just because you guys wanted to criminalize the criticism (try saying that 10x fast! :P) of GWB, it doesn't mean that we're going to do the same with BHO. You see, we believe in freedom of speech. For everyone, that is - not just those who agree with us. If you disagree with President Obama and want to criticize him, that's fine. We're not going to call you a traitor, send you fake anthrax through the mail, or go on the air and screech about how you should be killed to teach conservatives a lesson. That's not cool, and that's not how we play the game. Yes, a lot of us are kind of pissed off about the way GWB and his followers handled things. A lot of it was plain wrong, and a lot of us probably aren't going to forget about that crap for a long time. But that doesn't mean that we're going to stoop to your level.

So, short answer: No, you're not going to be arrested for simply criticizing/disagreeing with President Obama, and yes, you are being too paranoid. (You also appear to be suffering from "Obama Derangement Syndrome," but I'm not going to go there right now. ;)) Peace out.

Yeah, I can just envision the conspiratorial dissent-squashing planning conversation around the LTTE desk:

"Oh, Jesus, Bob, it's that fucking nut again. Fourth time this week."
