President Bush's one-time Bakersfield home to be museum

President Bush's one-time Bakersfield home to be museum

For three months in 1949, President George W. Bush and his parents lived in East Bakersfield while George H.W. Bush worked in local oilfields.

Today, that home sits on a corner off of Niles Street protected by a cyclone fence and neighborhood full of residents who care about it.

Now that President Bush is leaving office, the property owners plan to turn the home into a museum has come to the forefront.

Mark Abernathy formed a non-profit organization called "the Bush House." Later this year, renovations will begin to bring the home back to its original state, he said.

1. What will be in it, I wonder?
Pretzels? A Segway? A Chinese door? A first edition of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"?

Not sure there's room for the 'Mission Accomplished" banner over such a small place. Besides, is Bakersfield really ready for the impending crush of tourists? :sarcasm:
