Bush commutes prison terms of former Border Patrol agents
"WASHINGTON (AP) — In his final acts of clemency, President Bush on Monday commuted the prison sentences of two former Border Patrol agents whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited fierce debate about illegal immigration.

Bush's decision to commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to cover up the shooting, was welcomed by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. They had long argued that the agents were merely doing their jobs, defending the American border against criminals. They also maintained that the more than 10-year prison sentences the pair was given were too harsh."

In my opinion, bush finally did the right thing after 8 years of fucking everything up. I know many of you will whine, but the guy didn't die, was shot in the ass and wasn't playing by the rules.

2. I heard about this earlier today...
and was outraged, because I thought they had killed the guy. But if he just got popped in the butt-ocks (as Forrest Gump might put it), then yeah, ten years might be a lttle harsh. Also, IIRC, a commutation doesn't vacate the original conviction, so if it was a felony, they still have to check that box on employment applications, can't own weapons, can't vote, etc.

5. I heard those two border patrol guys got what they did because the drug smuggler was
someone important and some higher up on this side of the border were on his payroll.

7. On NPR this evening it was reported that they may be held for up to 2 more months - what's that shit
If their sentences were commuted then shouldn't they be released today? Tomorrow by noon at the latest?

8. The guys shot an unarmed man running away...
then covered up the crime.

Even their co-workers testified against them.

Officers do not shoot unarmed suspects. They do not shoot unarmed fleeing suspects. To do so is a crime.
