Did the Bush administration loosen standards on pet food?
I just read this (on freepublic of all places - someone said they'd read this) and I can't find the answer. Does anyone know? Not that it would surprise me, but I would love to know the facts.

1. it seems they've loosened the stardards on everything
except their own documents and secrets, of course.

2. Well, of course that's true - or they call them voluntary....
but if it's true, people need to know.

4. TV news said the pet food industry is "self-regulated" and we all know what that means
It was mentioned a few days ago.

It's just chilling -- and don't think the human food chain is exempt. This gang has set us back a century.

6. Is that a change from how it was before?
Because, if so, it would be major ammo in shifting back to better regulation on corporations. I have pets (thankfully not affected) and it's an emotional trigger for me, as I imagine it is for many people.

13. Honestly, I don't know.But it fits the Repub pattern of de-reg to a T
...and of course, that started back with Saint Ronnie and his infamous: "The scariest words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.'" How the average person fell for that I don't know.

I hope someone will be able to answer your question soon. You're right, it would be powerful ammunition in the lawsuit and elsewhere.

I hope that people everywhere are asking themselves, "What if this had gotten into Gerber's baby food?" I'm sure the baby food industry is better regulated -- but

Back to my usual rant about the beef industry. What's happening there is going to take a long time to show up, but show up it will. Thank you, BushCheney Inc.

7. There are no standards

Unless you buy natural pet food (or make your own), you're pets are at risk.
There are standards for organic pet food-many have human grade meat
in them. You can look up locations on their websites. Two examples of
excellent pet food companies-PetGuard and Newman's (as in Paul Newman).

9. The amount of laxity granted to the pet food industry ....

was in direct proportion to the amount of the collective donations to the RNC.

:sarcasm:

12. And the Republican Congress of 1994
I'm not sure a Democratic congress would have passed NAFTA, at least not back then. It sure sucks, doesn't it? We live in Seattle and our highways are clogged by huge trucks coming down from British Columbia, driving too fast, ripping up the roads, all heading south somewhere WITH stuff and going back to Canada empty.

11. There are three kinds of people in the world...
Those who blame EVERYTHING on Clinton, and
those who blame EVERYTHING on Bush, and
some other people who don't who to blame for what.
