Yeah, I know they had sound problems that resulted in the beginning being lost, and I know he stumbled a little on the end. But the man had the pipes and depth of voice to sing it well, far better than almost any other version I can think of.

1. It wasn't a sound problem.
He fucked up -twice.

I hope he has a good support system.

But he DID have a great voice.

2. Yep. He did...
...and was visibly upset with himself at the end during the cheering.

3. Poor guy
The whole world - you just know it - flinched when he made those two flubs.

But, it added a sweet note of humanity to the whole thing, don't you think?

6. I thought that the mic wasn't live at first
Which was why we came in on one of the later lines. I mean, if you're going to forget the lines, aren't you going to forget in the middle?

11. In his defense
The arrangement particularly the introduction was not well written, for the singer to be able to start in sync with the orchestra. It didnt like the conductor gave a great cue either. These difficulties are magnified by the extreme cold weather and technical issues in hearing the orchestra everything through an earpiece.

4. Martin Luther King III screwed up, too
Reading the lead-in to the clip of JFK being sworn in as President, MLK3 said "the office of oath."

I levitated on that one..........

8. I hadn't noticed that one, actually.
I tend to be forgiving of mistakes in live broadcasts. In any show with a lot of moving parts, it's often nothing short of miraculous that the whole thing doesn't come off the rails.

10. Can you imagine?
I, too, am always more embarrassed for the speaker/actor/singer than anything else. I just imagine myself in their position, and then I sort of die laughing.................
