OKAY - so I'm going to sound a bit crass...and grateful at the same time
I watched the wonderful concert in DC and I must say for the first time in many, way too many years, which include all of the *W* years and a few of the Clinton years I have lost connection to the deep love and pride I feel for this (my enthusiastically adopted) land.

I have only experienced a wonder of such beauty, variety, love, and talent under Democratic times and I'm getting my happier groove back.

I last felt awe similar to this at the Clinton inauguration, and then it gave way to sadness, incredulity, and finally rage at what happened to the Clintons when the monsters started fighting them through every step they took.

I believe many have awakened to that there was much wrong, misguided and destructive in what was done then.
I also believe this country has awakened from an increasingly disturbed sleep to that a disaster has befallen us under the Neocons, which is evidenced in the support for President elect Obama coming from all sides.

Without the country having been driven to the edge of despair I believe an Obama could not have been elected yet.
This despair affords him huge support from people who profess it and also from those who don't dare.
Self interest is the most powerful motivator, and it is at work all around us.

So I think we will not have the same mean spirited undermining of the new Democratic leadership,or a persecuting of President Obama from the get go.
We have come a long way, and have gained insight, and I believe some actual evolution has occurred in the psyche of the populace.

Now, back to the concert and my header saying:"crass".

I've been watching and studying the Repubes, I am in a formerly red state and have lots of examples all around me.
Most of them simply don't have in their hearts the ability to see or create beauty, to selflessly embrace and exude simple love for their fellow man, to have a full heart that is connected to the greater good and a wide world enjoyment of our connectedness as a people, and an elegance in their countenance and spirit.

If they gave a little time to the concert and the spirit behind it, a few seeds were sown under the snow. A little hope was shared. A sprouting will happen here and there and mankind advances.

America is back.
And to get through this valley of tears and turmoil she needs us more than ever.

1. You may be onto something there: Some people are indeed incapable of exuding

simple love for their fellow man.

No matter how good they are at putting the desired face on it, there are truly always the conditions, and those who meet the conditions ARE considered more worthy and valued, if not overtly, then covertly, more than those who do not.

3. A very nice post. I had forgotten how it felt to truly feel love
for my country - today I felt it, over and over again. The feeling that most people are basically good also came back - the crowd was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of that concert.

4. Thank you ! The concert was like a Democratic Convention on steroids.
The magic 01.20.09 is upon us, we all but have our very own magnificent new President, we can almost exhale for the first time in many years, and we don't have to even think of taking any new crap from anybody.

I'm ever vigilant, but I aim to be healed from the injuries I have sustained.
