Bush promises to veto House Iraq bill.“I will veto it if it comes to my desk,” Bush said, adding that he thinks the legislation has “no chance of becoming law.”

UPDATE: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reacts to the bill’s passage: “The American people have lost faith in the president’s conduct of this war. … The American people see the reality of the war, the president does not.”

Divided House approves Iraq withdrawal bill in challenge to Bush

March 23, 2007
BY ANNE FLAHERTY Associated Press

''The American people have lost faith in the president's conduct of this war,'' said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. ''The American people see the reality of the war, the president does not.''

The vote, echoing clashes between lawmakers and the White House over the Vietnam War four decades ago, pushed the Democratic-led Congress a step closer to a constitutional collision with the wartime commander in chief. Bush has insisted that lawmakers allow more time for his strategy of sending nearly 30,000 additional troops to Iraq to work.

In Friday's House debate, Democrats said it was time for them to begin influencing the war's path.

''The American public expects, the Congress of the United States, to do something,'' said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md. ''Not simply to say 'yes' to failed policies, but to on their behalf, speak out and try to take us in a new direction.''

''What we're trying to do in this legislation is force the Iraqis to fight their own war,'' said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., who had helped write the bill.

1. He is soooo outa touch with reality...
This is what scares me... they are backed way into a corner, and they aren't going to just lie down and wait this out. They will get active

3. Can't stand on his own
Isn't it funny that he had to have soldiers there as a "guilt trip" to the viewers?

Like Hitler, has to rule by intimidation.

Time to impeach his ass, no matter what!

10. He was surrounded by soldiers? Just like all dictators, protecting himself with troops.

15. Ignoring reality because of rovian/neocon philosophy of "creating own realities"...
Edited on Fri Mar-23-07 04:44 PM by tiptoe
"Bad conscience" over 3000 murders of 9/11 and near-million Iraqi killings is sublimated/self-excused/psychologically-displaced by "utopian visions" of "positive" and "good" from "creating new value(-feeling)s" ...or as Michael Ledeen calls it: "Creative destruction" (...all this a vulgar extension of Nietzsche's "Philosophy with a hammer" which sounds "lollipop-tasty" to traditional Military-Industrial-Complex moral-morons like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and stooge Dubya ["easier...as long as I'm the dictator"], all usurping a dilletantish "fresh pseudo-intellectual mask" of neo-conservatism to cover for radical conservativism** and traditional, raw, war-profiteering instincts.)

From Hijacked Republicans:
There are three extreme factions. Because of limited space, I am going to talk only about two of them. One is the extreme fiscal conservatives. Conservatives generally support lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, and limits to spending, but they also support good government where needed, with accountability for results. The second extreme faction is the neoconservative wing of the administration, the one currently responsible for implementing the Bush Doctrine of preemptive war. They believe in a role for ‘total war’ in the establishment of what amounts to a new American empire; they are overt about this and use these words themselves. They held these beliefs way before 9/11; in fact they have writings stating the need for something like 9/11 to happen so that they could implement their vision. (The third extreme faction is the far right wing of the party on social agendas and issues of civil liberties, which has its highest representation in John Ashcroft as Attorney General. Conservatives generally have a high interest in increasing morality in their culture, but they also traditionally believe that government does not function best when it is taking away civil liberties. )

Here are current administration players in their own words. Grover Norquist is the mastermind of the radical fiscal policies [tax cuts for wealthy during wartime], behind which there is definitely a hidden agenda [starve the beast of revenues for social programs]. He is a Washington power broker who oversees coordination of administration players through a weekly breakfast [Wednesday mornings], attended by all branches of government. Michael Ledeen is a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a major think tank, and influential with Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. Paul Weyrich is founder of the Heritage Foundation, which has itself been at times called a shadow government, due to its influence with leaders.

"I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it to the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub."
Grover Norquist, on NPR 2001

“Creative destruction is our middle name, both within our society and abroad. We tear down the old order every day [Rumsfeld's "Old Europe"]], from business to science, literature, art, architecture, and cinema, to politics and the law [unwarranted suspension of habeas corpus]. Our enemies have always hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) [Geneve Conventions] and shames them for their inability to keep pace. … [W]e must destroy them to advance our historic mission. [sounding like Nazism?]
Michael Ledeen

“We are different from previous generations of conservatives. We are no longer working to preserve the status quo. We are radicals, working to overturn the present power structure of this country.”
Paul Weyrich

This might not sound so alarming, unless you realize that they carry no great allegiance to the structures of democracy, nor to the Constitution. Or unless you realize that they carry great influence and can see the traces of that influence in the actual of the administration...

** From The Presidential Papers of Dwight David Eisenhower (links and emphasis added):
...Now it is true that I believe this country is following a dangerous trend when it permits too great a degree of centralization of governmental functions. I oppose this--in some instances the fight is a rather desperate one. But to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is not applied in this effort, we will lose everything--even to a possible and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my constant insistence upon "moderation" in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas.5 Their number is negligible and they are stupid...

"Creating reality" of 9/11? Former Head Of Star Wars Program Says Cheney Main 9/11 Suspect

Failure of Neo-conservatism (Francis Fukuyama, "leading architect" of Neoconservatism)
"over militarization of the means"
"premptive war doctrine" in shambles

And it all starts — and continues through the 2006 mid-terms — with ELECTION FRAUD

I'm a little afraid of what he might do - you know he's on the edge of a mental breakdown, and he can't maintain his narcissitic bubble now that the Dems are in power.

His underground lair? A hospital? We need to put a beeper collar on that guy. I hate it when Cheney just disappears from view, too; who knows what he's up to.
