You Do Realize That the Iraq Bill Sticks THE CHIMP Right In His Craw.
The Dems are workin' it, folks. By sticking the provision that all troops withdraw by 2008 into the Iraq Spending Bill the Dems have effectively cornered Bush. If he rejects it, as he promised, HE will appear to be the one defunding the troops.

Yet at the same time, many have claimed that the only way to end this never-ending war is to cut off funding. Well guess what? If the funding is cut off, it will be the sole fault of BUSH ALONE, with one stroke of his veto pen - and THE TROOPS CAN BEGIN TO COME HOME!

I think the Dems have played this well. Bush is a cornered rat and there's not enough squirming he can do to get out of it.

Will this scenario play out? What do you think?

4. I appreciate the post, but
I do not believe bush "cares" about anything or anybody. He's a hateful, evil sonofabitch. He's just counting the days to get on the plane and fly to Paraguay and let someone else clean up the shit house he created for our country.

5. I think this whole defunding the troops argument is no more than a lying right
wing talking point, and we should not use it. It is a reaction to repub lies, not an action. I dont think anyone should even take it seriously, much less write a bill because of it. it is a lie. So we're playing back and forth about funding the troops. Funding the troops is not a real issue. It is bullshit. As Cindy Sheehan said, the money is NOT for the troops.

6. Defund through the back door - I like it!
Let's hope we can get this through the Senate - that will be harder than getting it through the House - Lieberman's likely to fight against anything that doesn't please his neocon buddies. But yeah, I'd love to see the war defunded by Bush's veto pen.

7. This is just the House, though- yes?
Edited on Fri Mar-23-07 12:53 PM by Marr
I mean- it's still got to make it through the Senate. That seems alot less likely to me.

9. He'll veto
and blame the Dems for not funding the troops by giving him such a ridiculous bill.

They've already started that line saying Congress will be on vacation while our troops have no funding.
Don't ever put anything past them... the corporate media will buy it hook line and sinker and not place any blame on Shrub

13. We shall see how unitary executives handle such legislation.
Especially with any "out" wording that can be interpreted in any way about withdrawal with signing statements.
