30-pound marijuana brick delivered to wrong address in Denton

01:41 PM CST on Thursday, January 15, 2009

By DONNA FIELDER / The Denton Record-Chronicle
dfielder@dentonrc.com

UPS delivers, but not always to the right address, a Denton man discovered Monday when he found a lot of green inside a package dropped on his porch by the men in brown.

The man took the package to Denton police later that night, police spokesman Officer Ryan Grelle said. It contained a 30-pound brick of compressed marijuana with a street value of $10,500.

UPS mistakenly delivered it to the Denton house about 8 p.m., Grelle said. The resident was not at home at the time and opened it when he returned.

“He was expecting tools that he had ordered from Sears,” Grelle said. “He opened it up and thought, ‘Oh my.’ He loaded it up and brought it to the police department.”

Grelle said the package, which apparently came from Pharr, Texas, and was handled by a UPS branch in McAllen on Jan. 6, wasn’t addressed to the Denton man on whose porch it landed. It carried an address in Dallas. But there was no such address in Dallas, so someone at the package delivery service decided it must be meant for a similar address in Denton, the officer said.

The case is still under investigation.

28. Looking at the quality of that from the picture-
I would say regular swag for the most part-

I get that for $20 a quarter- $40 for the "better" stuff-

That's about a 20% markup per my dude :)

Oh, and this is local pricing by the way as I live in the DFW area

29. We law enforcement don't rear our heads often
Being called a fucking pig fascist gets tiresome at times.

Depending on the quality and supply on the streets, I would estimate the value of the 30lb brick to be at least twice, maybe 3 times the amount quoted.

50. What's wrong with "on the streets"? If a phrase like that is all it takes
to label a cop a pig in your estimation, I'm guessing your threshold is so low that there is no way a cop could avoid being a pig...

52. So it isn't sold "on the streets?"
Black Market more to your liking?
Drug Houses?
What would be more to your sensible likings exactley? When things are done which are against the law, they have a tendency to take a low profile approach. A mere metaphor of activities which do not draw attention. Why split hairs at this point, you have already shown yourself for who you are.

If you have a problem with the laws, then take it up with the law makers, not the enforcers. We have a job, most of us do it to help people. But hey, why let stereotyping get in the way of making a point. What works for those fucking republicans work for you pretty well.

So on the street, I'd imagine about 200 for a QP or 800 a lb. Even at $800 a lb, that should still be more like $24k, but maybe he got a bulk discount

I'm guessing $100-200,000, depending on whether it's cheap sensimilla (aka Mexican) or high-quality Indica or similar.

I can't believe he called the police. Well I can, since he probably thought his house was being watched. but I would have tried waiting it out for a few days and pleading complete cluelessness. Why does this never happen to me?

41. Yes, that's the one.
If I recall correctly, the County issued their report on the incident and, you will of course be surprised to learn, concluded that - even though the police didn't have a valid search warrant, that they knew about scam with the illegal drugs being mailed to the homes of innocent parties to be collected before those parties even arrived home by the dealers, and that at least one of the dogs was running away from the officers when she was shot - the deputies involved in the raid had done nothing wrong.

3 lbs maybe, look at the size of it compared to the Skoal can. Now if memory serves me right a standard bale of hay is around 65 to 70 lbs and that's doesn't even look close to half a bale of hay.

59. Someone who didn't want the DEA showing up and getting trigger-happy in his home?
I believe that's enough pot to get the feds called in, but I'm no expert on the subject. And while local cops tend to come in a variety of tolerance levels (everything from 'good guy who doesn't give a crap' to 'power-crazed jackbooted scum'), the DEA has consistently abused its power when it comes to pot busts. I can't fault the guy for trying to keep himself (and possibly his family?) safe.

Aim your criticisms at the DEA, for forcing people to make this calculation.
