The Grandson of Slaves...Touching and especially poignant to
me, the great-great granddaughter of slaves. What this dear man witnessed in not being able to vote until he was 30 years old. My uncle spoke to me of not being able to vote in his home state of South Carolina. He didn't vote until he entered the Navy and moved to Washington state. He is just one generation older than I am and he didn't know what it was like to vote his choice in an election. My Grandmother, who was the granddaughter of slaves, told me of living in Texas in the 20's and 30's and more often than not, greeting the sights of dangling lynching victims and and Grandpa told me of seeing signs that were posted outside of towns that read,"nigger, don't let the sun go down on you!".

This man is the grandson of slaves and I am the great, great granddaughter of slaves, yet we both have the same hope that America is finally fulfilling her promise to all of her children.
