Sex offender wins Alaska lottery that aids sex abuse victims
Sex offender wins Alaska lottery that aids sex abuse victims

By Kyle Hopkins | Anchorage Daily News

The winner of the $500,000 statewide lottery to benefit a nonprofit that aids victims of sexual abuse is himself a convicted sex offender.

Alec Ahsoak, 53, came forward to claim his winnings on Saturday, said lottery organizer Abe Spicola, who owns Lucky Times Pull Tabs in Anchorage.

"He said he was going to buy a house and said he was going to donate part of it to God, and you know charity," Spicola said.

Specifically, Ahsoak said he planned to give $100,000 of the jackpot to Standing Together Against Rape, which paired up with Lucky Times to conduct the lottery, Spicola said.

Ahsoak was convicted of two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in 1993, and once again in 2000, according to the state's sex offender registry and first reported Saturday evening by KTUU, Channel 2.

1. He's a 3x Child Molester.
And this is such a slap in the face to his victims. They should be able to sue for every last penny of that money.

3. Sorry, while I deplore what he did
there is a statute of limitations, plus there was nothing in the lottery's rules that said if you are a convicted felon, then you can't play..they sure as fuck were willing to take his money huh? I have never been convicted of felony (arrested for protesting Bush though) one of the things I have against striking felons from the voting records is that once they are out jail they become taxpayers..to me that is taxation with out representation!

Clearly he wasn't rehabilitated the first time around.

Our country's laws are so fucked up. We'll lock up first time marijuana users, yet let people like this walk the streets.

8. He needs to give some of that money to Alaska Airlines...
Alaska seems to be the Sexual Abuse Capital of the United States. I figure if he buys a one-way ticket to someplace that's not quite as screwed up as Alaska is, maybe he can start over...

9. My question is that if he was convicted in 2000 of a second sexual abuse crime
Why is he even able to buy a lottery ticket? He should still be in jail!

12. I was there
I was at the drawing of the first Alaskan statewide Lottery
put on by S.T.A.R. (Stand Together Against Rape) and the whole
thing seemed like a scam to me. Here is why...
The tickets were loaded into the large rectangle/hexegonal
barrel and with a hand crank were spun around. Quite a few
tickets got stuck in the seams of the barrel. Unfortunately,
Mr. Whitekeys (a local entertainer drawing the number) made a
comment...something like, 'We just won't include those people'
(Can't remember the 'exact quote'), and there was an audible
sigh from the crowd. My daughter, who attended with me said,
"I sure hope MY ticket isn't stuck there." And she
wasn't joking, (The way the Anchorage Daily News said the
patron they quoted was probably half joking) she was angry.
Then Mr. Whitekeys asked for a 'drum roll' and they played
'Eye Of The Tiger'. Not 'Money', as the Anchorage Daily News
said. Mr. Whitekeys pulled out a ticket and held it up for
all to see. Then said it wasn't 'good enough' and TOSSED IT
BACK INTO THE BARREL!!!!! He drew another ticket and asked
the crowd if it was 'good enough', to which SOME people, NOT
ALL, said, "NO!" So, he THREW IT BACK IN, TOO!!!!
I said, "Oh brother, we could be were all night at this
rate. I thought the winner is supposed to be the FIRST ticket
drawn, not the last." Mr. Whitekeys drew out a third
ticket and finally proclaimed it as the winner.
I understand this is the first lottery, and they probably
didn't even consider sealing the barrel so no tickets would
stick in the sides. And Mr. Whitekeys IS and entertainer, so
he was just trying to be 'dramitic and funny'. However, I
believe there are rules to these things and it just seems they
weren't followed very well. Mr Whitekeys had on long sleeves
and it sure made it seem as if he was waiting for the
'predeterminded ticket' to 'fall' into his hand.
Now the winner has stepped forward to claim the money.
And guess what. He is a convicted SEX OFFENDER! He claims to
have been 'rehabilitated', and is going to give S.T.A.R. back
$100,000 because he feels 'it's is the least he could do'.
What a JOKE! I mean give me a break. An organization to
PREVENT rape is going to allow a SEX OFFENDER to enter and
keep the lottery winnings?
I hate to say it but it seems as if S.T.A.R is
advertising...
Come to Alaska, Rape our Women, We'll PAY you for it!!!!!

              IT TICKS ME OFF!!!!!!!!!

I hope next time they make all the numbers so that they can
draw the numbers one at a time from a 'bingo ball' type
barrel. The numbers should be on balls and drawn one at a time
so there is no way of 'cheating'.

I think I will ask for my money back and not enter their
lotteries any more.
