5. Sen. Boxer taking Inhofe down using the nurturing mother approach in front of everybody...
...is pregnant with possibilities. No, tired old Al Fat jokes instead. He does not have to be a "party operative", to entertain the false choice, but he could at least try to be original. I guess he deserves a point for not saying "wooden" this time.

14. What more humor is there to be had in that?
It's a standalone piece of humor. Stewart has nothing to add.

And Al Gore is more widely known than either Boxer or Inhofe.

9. The Gore piece was lame.
Just broad whacks at tired material. The Snow but was funny and true. Dmitri is funny as hell. It pisses me off when Jon goes for the sloppy easy. He usually gets sloppy easy when it's Gore or Bill Clinton.

18. You know why? Because Al Gore and Bill Clinton are usually correct!
That's why he goes for the "sloppy easy". It's because the things Gore talks about aren't to be made fun of. Now if Stewart had made a bunch of jokes about how global warming was bullshit, and Al Gore was a doomsayer, you might have a reason to get upset....

7. Meh. I thought it was pretty tame.
Kind of dull actually, 'cause there's just not a lot to rip Gore about.

Hardly an "attack," in any event.

10. Your pix.
What a moment. Boxer eviscerated that fuck Inhofe in front of the whole room. What a moment! What satisfaction for all Democrats! No mention. It's a missed opportunity in favor af a Gor fat joke. Know what I mean? Missed potential.

Not that it's the end of the world or anything.

21. He showed that clip at the very end of the show,
But didn't say much about it. I guess he thinks a "picture is worth a thousand words" I didn't find the Al Gore shtick funny either, but tomorrow's another day.

22. I hear ya.
Could've been a hundred better (funnier) jokes made about that scene.

Shit, it was hilarious just watching Inhofe get all red and worked up like a spoiled little brat!

13. The thing is it wasn't funny
There is no harm in making fun of a democrat or a republican or an independant. But the segment about Gore wasn't the least bit funny. It just fell flat. Notice the audience didn't really laugh.

Knowing Stewart it just didn't fly the way he usually does stuff.

16. It was funny! I laughed at the "fourth-meal" joke, I'll admit. Get a sense
of humor, people! Al Gore gained weight--he opened himself up to it. No one is untouchable.

24. Missed the point, have we?
Point is, it would've been a lot funnier to poke fun at Inhofe (sp?) acting like a brat about something important like being questioned, than to make fun of Al for being overweight. After all, political humor is supposed to attack politics, not weight issues.

Sounds like some folks on this board are suffering from terminal idol-worship of Stewart, to the point that they'll defend anything he says or does. (And no, I'm not a Gore-worshiper who wants Al to run in 2008, either.)

That kind of joke would've worked much better on the Colbert show, where the host DOES play someone stupid enough to focus on somebody's weight instead of a more important issue.

Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 11:54 PM by nam78_two
That bit was rather lame imo...I didn't care aside from that.

I don't think Jon would ever seriously "attack" Gore, but I do think he missed an opportunity for some real satire with those hearings considering what a thorough ass Inhofe made of himself on those.

Overall though, TDS has been on fire of late. They have had a lot of material to work with of late.

26. Why is it that Stewart "attacks" liberals but "kicks conservative ass"?
Edited on Fri Mar-23-07 12:32 AM by deadparrot
Sometimes liberals say and do stupid things. It's Stewart's JOB to exploit that. Anyone with half a brain can tell that he's a lefty, but dude. Sometimes our side can get pretty silly or awkward, and guess what? Comedians joke about it. Go figure.

If you can't learn to laugh at yourself from time to time, you're going to have a very unhappy life.
