WTF? Sen Reid wants Ted Stevens Freed!
Reid: Free Ted Stevens!
By Matt Berman - January 7, 2009, 11:21AM
Former senator Ted Stevens (yes, now actually former) is keeping up the fight against his guilty verdict -- and now Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid has lent him a hand.

Reid told Politico that he believes Stevens shouldn't serve jail time.

My personal feeling, you guys, I don't know what good that ... He was a real war hero too, you know. He's been punished enough.

Reid said he thinks Stevens was simply behind the curve of modern ethics standards in not disclosing the $250,000 in gifts he received from VECO CEOBill Allen, saying of the famously internet-unsavvy Uncle Ted that "it's a different world we live in, and Stevens did not understand that."

Sentencing for Stevens had tentatively been scheduled for next month, but it's unlikely that he'll be sentenced any time soon. Last month, lawyers for Stevens asked for a new trial, claiming that the prosecution had presented false evidence and withheld information that could have helped the defense.

7. I'm now adding Reid (along with Pelosi) to my list of deliberate traitors
I thought maybe he was just a coward, but now I think he's a plant from the other side.

17. We need to aggresivly investigate them both for corruption
Their districts are evidently safe

The congress is not going to remove them

Looks like it's up to us

I'm sure they must have conflicts of interest

Nevada is notoriously corrupt. Everybody's dirty in some way

and Nance is the product of long time Bay area machine politics

I'm sure they are both dirty as hell

I can smell it from here

Let's go get them

It's the only way to get rid of them

11. Everyday it seems Harry is proving that he can be even more of a wimp!
I'm so fucking sick of his enabling and roll-over mentality. And we seem to be stuck with him as Majority Leader for how much longer?!

isn't that what all of our service people are? Or is Ted Stevens more of a hero than others who have been convicted of crimes? Also sounds like Harry Reed is making excuses for Stevens by painting him old and incompetent. To that I would ask; if our Senators are too old to keep up with the rules (which they happen to make) and simple things like ethics, then perhaps we should look at a mandatory retirement age for Senators.. 65 sounds like a good age to me?

14. the devil made me do it
ok, so I started out a little note to Harry. And got a little carried away. Had a hard time staying on message, although I eventually think I wound back to where I started.

Dear Senator Reid,

Please help me get out of jail, where I am spending time for robbing a bank. Siriusly, I was just "a little behind the ball" on proper bank withdrawal!!!111!

Seriously, are you a Republican masquerading as a Democrat? A card-carrying member of the ol'boys crime network, protecting one of your own? Or afraid you could be asking for a "get out of jail free" card some day soon?

Please stop pandering to terrorists. Please stop negotiating with terrorists. The republican party stole the Presidency 8 years ago, committed torture and mass murder in our names, spied on us, robbed us blind, and destroyed our economy.

Congress wasted no time giving Wall Street tycoons $350B, with $350B to follow, with no oversight, no accountability, and no results beyond some banks using it to buy each other out, pay themselves bonuses and *anything* but actually doing loans.

And now Congress is dragging their feet and stalling while the peons go down, because god forbid the economic stimulus plan should not pander to the same Republican thieves who wrought this disaster upon us.

Grow a spine. Wake up and smell the white phosphorus raining down on Gaza. Do something. But whatever you do, kindly quit sniveling over a criminal congressman doing his time.

Sincerely,
Me

16. It is very hard for white, middle class or upper class people to see other white,
middle class or upper class people prosecuted for any crime. I once worked with an alcoholic who was picked up several times driving while drunk. He managed to get each arrest knocked down to a speeding ticket or DUI from a DWI because he was a single father working a white collar job. No judge or prosecutor wanted to put someone like him in jail. How often does a white college student go to jail for possessing drugs? How often does a white high school drop out go to jail for possessing the same amount of the same drugs? I don't even want to get into the the difference between how whites and blacks are treated!

"He was a real war hero too, you know. "

LMAO...because that erases everything...

"He's been punished enough"

Has he been punished at all? Well, besides losing out on that government gravy train he fashioned for himself

"Stevens was simply behind the curve of modern ethics standards"

LMAO...before, it was a lot of corruption is good...now, it's a little corruption is good...but the man who has been in Congress for 40 plus years was unaware of the changes?

"it's a different world we live in, and Stevens did not understand that."

ROFLMAO

Yeah...because even though the peons in America, aka "the people", can't use ignorance as an excuse for the law...lawmakers, the very people who make the laws (rules, etc) can plead ignorance as a valid defense
