Will Obama be the Center RIGHT president?
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 01:36 PM by Bushknew
With his current appointments, Gupta, tax cuts and silence on the Israeli massacre, looks like Obama will be a Center Right president.

Emphasis on the right.

We all know that tax cuts for the middle class (aka not the rich) are a horrible thing.
Plus when ok's embryonic stem cell research as soon as he gets into office that will only prove he is pandering to the pro-stem cell right.

11. Do you think the "center" is one pin point on the political spectrum?
Or do you believe it encompasses a little on the right and a little on the left. In other words, on a scale of 1 to 100, 40-60 could represent the center, not just 50.

Now, if Obama has made it clear all along that he going to represent the center, wouldn't that lead to some decisions coming down on the right side of 50? And that some will come down on the left side? Did you really think he was only going to represent the left end of the center?

Why would anyone think that he was anything else? Many of us voted for him because he isn't FAR right. The Left has no voice in the US of A.

28. Read the site and take the test for yourself. The "center" has been right wing
in America for some time now. As a British Tory told me not long ago "We Tories see Democrats as our kind of conservatives. Republicans, on the other hand, are just plain scary".

32. Only if you take him out of the context of America
In this country he's a solid lefty and Kucinich is a far left loon.

Meanwhile, by the little test I'm a pretty hard core leftist but don't see any incredible gulf between Obama's positions and most of my own. Sure, I want a President to left of me but I certainly don't expect the country could take a jolt like that in on move and remain intact. Considering the last 30-40 years, it would seem like center-right would be a breath of fresh air. When's the last time the US had a more left bearing President than France? What if he was center-left, how much difference would be? Or is it especially any? A single change in an outlook what swap it.

This me and I'm damn near right wing on this site. Obama will be fine.

46. It's the best we can get right now; we should basically be relieved
Much as most of this was telegraphed ahead of time, the deliberate evasiveness was quite successful in suckering in the leftists and pacifists necessary to get him over the top. We are also riding a false high when looking at that 53% victory: had there not been a full-scale financial DISASTER a month and a half before the election, it could have had a different outcome.

47. You are correct
The evasiveness was there from the start. My leftie neighbors and I discussed this many times during the campaign. They were for your guy, I was for someone entirely different. Before the election we hoped that we were wrong and that liberals would be repesented substaniatially in the new administration.

Our hopes were dashed quite soon after.

42. Pretty much, though he's really about par for the course, nothing unusual
It was just the celeb-cipher image that sold a product any different. He's one more triangulating DLC coward, but I won't pick on him for being especially bad. He's average, merely mediocre on the pink tutu scale.

What's really amusing is to see people insisting he will still go after Bush... and he's doing the slap happy photo shoots with All The Presidents, Jr and Sr included. I don't believe Obama believes Bush did anything wrong. If he does believe Bush was all we said he was, I don't know what kind of man would do a photo op next to a war criminal. Well, I guess I do know what kind of man would do that.
