I hope you were watching for pure amusement or that you get some kind of sadistic pleasure from watching that claptrap.
As one whose seen Burris for nearly 30 years, this dude's really going for his 15 minutes, feeding the corporate media beast and they just can't get enough. He's pulling all their strings and have them dancing some conveluted Kabuki dance...and none dances better than the mental midgets at Faux.
The deal is Reid and the Democrats need the votes to quickly pass legislation and Burris, while eccentric as all hell, is a safe vote. Blago could have done a lot worse...like nominating his wife or Mr. T....Burris will do his two years, get his mausoleum updated and then let the voters decide. Blago's day is coming...and the sooner the better, but it's not going to be the corporate media that removes him. The bottom line is that Blago still hasn't been indicted and not only was legally within his right to make this nomination, but was all but required to.
Madoff is another matter...becoming the poster child for the greed and swindling that went on, but to think he's the only one is to be as foolish as those who invested with Madoff. I saw many investment programs that promised double digit returns (15-20%)...not just saw them but were pitched them heavily. You'd be given an "investment profile" test...to see how "adverse to risk" you were...and imagine how many people tended to fit into the less conservative area, and guess what they were pitched? So what if there were warnings that you could easily lose as quickly as you could gain or that few understood how such large returns could be sustained, but as long as the monthly statements showed more money, whose gonna bitch? Now when the bottom has fallen out, people...especially the corporate media...needs a face to tattoo this con game on. But again, Madoff wasn't alone, nor did he get away with this crap for so long without others being onto his game.
If anyone should be frog marched, it's should be Christopher Cox and the rest of the SEC...they saw all the fleecing going on and their job was to ensure the schemes kept rolling...the proverbial foxes in charge of the hen house.
