Levi Johnston quits oil field job, PUBLIC SCRUTINY: Rules say he needs diploma for apprenticeship.
Source: Anchorage Daily News

Levi Johnston, the boyfriend of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said Monday.

Johnston, 18, began working this fall in the Milne Point oil field with ASRC Energy Services Inc., a major Slope contractor.

In a Sunday newspaper column, Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan questioned how Johnston could take part in ASRC's apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.

Fagan said he understood federal regulations require all members of apprenticeship programs to have a diploma. He also questioned whether the governor might have had a hand in getting Johnston into the program.

3. Turns out Fagan was wrong, though. It's not a federal requirement.
It's the COMPANY that wants the diploma, not the feds. And the kid (so says his daddy, anyway) never lied to the company. He simply transferred into a HSD or equivalent job, and no one noticed that he didn't have the goods.

http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/643519.html

ASRC spokespersons declined to comment on Levi Johnston directly, citing employee privacy.

In a written statement, the company said its electrical apprenticeship program eligibility requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, "but this is not a requirement mandated by the federal government."

The statement also says, "The information provided by the applicant to the company is relied upon to be true and correct."

Keith Johnston said his son never told ASRC he had a high school education when he really didn't. Rather, he said, the lack of a diploma was something that was simply overlooked as Levi transferred from the Valdez job to the Slope job.

Fagan, who also maintains a journalistic Web site, said Monday he wasn't out to take potshots at the governor.

"I'm just doing my job," he said.

Poor bastard. He's probably never even voted in his life, he's a brand new teen father, he's got the eyes of half the world on him, his mother just went to court for meth....and he's got no job, now. He'd better hope for a good payday from the baby pics.

Incredible the crap that politicians, and those who cover politicians, rain down on kids who never asked for the attention or the spotlight. This guy is an object of intense public scrutiny, and he's never run for office in his life.

4. OK I was not going to comment about
this because of all the folks here that are upset that we're picking on innocent kids but this is about the 5th time I've seen something about Levi so here goes and I don't care what you think, ( I mean I really do, but I am so sick of it all) please talk me down. Sarah's own aspirations are to blame for her family's problems and she knows it and that's why she is lashing out. Why the fuck do we have to keep on playing by the rules- Levi didn't have to because of Sarah- (like our government and the police and the state laws and the federal laws and the US supreme court and the banks and your job and your religion and your conscience and your morals and your Mother and your Father ( they lived a different reality-God bless them) and your community(SHEEP) and your neighbors (SHEEP) and the media and most radio stations and your boss and your health insurance company and you car insurance company and your landlord and unemployment law and global policy and OPEC -Costa nostra- and homelessness and the wars and the coming wars and the national deficit ( go ahead balance your checkbook like that - how long would you last ? ) and the globe falling apart but were told it's ok-just scientific noise- and China putting poison in dog food to people food, toothpaste, mouthwash etc... ( it was a mistake) and ???? please fill in the rest because I am sure I missed a ton but I can't go on anymore because I am spent.

5. We play by the rules because that's who we are. It's not a contest to determine the winner.
It is a contest to do what is right.

If it were just a "winner take all" game, well, we'd fight dirty and screw people over. But then, we'd be ... Republicans.

8. "and he's got no job, now."
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 09:52 PM by rainbow4321
Because of his own doing...he and his father chose for him to go into the apprenticeship program knowing that he didn't have his GED/diploma.
No sympathy from me. Sounds like a "the company overlooked it and we didn't offer the information".
Just look at his father's comment:

"You guys are watching him so tightly," Johnston said, referring to the media. "He's being treated different than an average 18-year-old kid. He has to do everything by the book now."

Um, yeah, I would HOPE that would be a given, Dad. You knock up the governor's daughter and, yeah, you are no longer an average 18 yr old.

11. His father is a jerk
I wonder what Levi's dad thinks a typical 18 year old kid is like? When my sons were 18 they were 'watched' by me and did everything by the book. That's how you raise good sons. His son is a proven fuck up already.
