Maybe, just maybe, the Senate and House Judiciary members
know what they're doing. Yesterday I wrote a post saying "Just issue the goddamn subpoenas".

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=465921&mesg_id=465921

I was quickly and correctly called to task, and it was explained to me that negotiating with the WH strengthened the dems hand. Check out the link in the thread.

It's clear that Conyers and Leahy are lining up their little ducks. And I do have a lot of faith in both of them. I'm not as familiar with Conyers as Leahy, because Leahy's my Senator. He was a tough prosecutor in Chittendon County for something like eight years before being elected to the Senate. He's treating this matter like a prosecutor. Most of the members of the Senate Judiciary are lawyers, and Sheldon Whitehouse of RI, was not only Attorney General of the state, but prior to that he was a U.S. Attorney himself for four years.

Like a lot of DUers, I'm impatient to see the administration held accountable, but I want it done right more than I want it done quickly.

So don't hold a subpoena watch. They'll issue them when the time is right.

1. IMO they know exactly what they're doing...
They're playing it very deliberate and very smart, and the White House is running scared because they really have no idea what evidence they have. Are they bluffing? I doubt it, I think this is the real deal.

6. I think they have evidence, too -- from those "disgruntled" DOJ attorneys.

4. Thanks robinlynne,
I have great respect and admiration for Conyers; I just don't know his background as well as I do Leahy's.

8. well he led the black caucus out of the congress after the supreme court
installed Bush. They only members to stand up.
he led the same group, plus barbara Boxer to stand up and not accept the ohio vote count in 2004.
I could go on and on.
He is honest, courageous, and somehow always manages to speak the truth in a quiet voice.

5. Among his past acts of bravery -
Conyers was the only voice that really spoke out about the Waco massacre.

He was among the first to understand that black box voting was a reality and
should be stopped.

In the recent past, he has continuously "hinted" that seeing Cheney and Bush indicted and impeached would be desirable (remember until this past Novemebr anything more than a hint could bring a Congressman down.)

7. Yes...I listened to NPR yesterday on my commute...
I think they are lining up their ducks, and I think that every defense the Repubs have tested has come across as weak and self-serving.
