I'm out of the loop on the Franken/Billo controversy.
Do these guys have some nasty history?
Did O'Liely attack Al in one of his rants?

14. I just went to your links...thank you.
Gawd...I can't stand that ugly arrogant punk. Yes...he IS a liar.
Billo claims he "Misspoke". Well, that can also be a lie, Bildo.
Didn't he once claim to have been involved in some heroic gunfight event that turned out to be rubbish?
Isn't he the guy that claims his security people will come and "get you" if you dare to refute any of his exaggerations?
How can people be so STUPID to give this creep the time of day...let alone tune into his show??

7. Lying Liars
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 11:52 AM by underpants
In Franken's first big book (I highly recommend "The Truth, with jokes") he clearly pointed out that O'Reilly lied about winning a Peabody award and how generally full of crap he is. Others followed but Franken was the first national voice to point out the rightwing media operations.

24. Excuse me
that is correct

The Truth with Jokes is hilarious at least the first 2/3 of it. The last part is about the war in Iraq-it is heartfelt and sad.

9. O'Reilly got Fox News to attempt a lawsuit of Franken, it failed miserably
When Franken's book "Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right" was about to be released O'Reilly was furious that there was an unflattering picture of him on the cover as well as a chapter documenting his lies. O'Reilly convinced Fox News to file a lawsuit against Franken claiming that the term "Fair and Balanced" was a trademark of FOX and could not be used in the title of Franken's book. The lawsuit was laughed out of court, and I mean literally laughed out. The judge dismissed the case immediately and everyone was laughing at the Fox lawyers in the courtroom. It was a huge embarassment for Fox, and the controversy shot Franken's book to the top of the best seller lists. Ever since then O'Reilly has hated Franken with a passion that he reserves for few others. Franken and Keith Olbermann are the two people that will make O'Reilly blow up just from the mention of their names, O'Reilly may hate a lot of people but there is nobody he hates worse than Franken and Olbermann.

19. "Wholly without merit" was the quote from the suit against Franken by Fox News (O'Reilly)
from the court

http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/08/22/fox.franken/

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Saying "This is an easy case," a federal judge ruled Friday against Fox News in its lawsuit asserting that a book by liberal satirist Al Franken violates its trademarked slogan, "fair and balanced."

U.S. District Judge Denny Chin, after listening to about half an hour of oral arguments, said the lawsuit was "wholly without merit, both factually and legally."

10. Well...
Al's book "Lies, and the Lying Liars..." has at least a chapter on O'Reilly's lies. But that's just a start.

Here's an exchange from the Los Angeles book Fair:

21. FINALLY
I think I started watching SNL the second season (Fran Tarkenton was the host) at the age of 11 or so (far too earlier  )

One of the really funny stories that Franken tells about this who's-who and chances that Lorne Michaels took from around the college comedy scene and how they basically moved in to the 8th floor of 30 Rock. They moved all the furniture out into the hallways and slept in the offices. Imagine network suits (Jack Donaghy on "30Rock" itself ) walking around and finding that there was a craven bunch of hippie types LIVING in the building.

The "Franken and Davis" skits were very good and both were writers on the show.
