Did you know most of our honey comes from China?
For over the past 10 years?

They also have been using a extremely dangerous drug in their hives, then attempting to avoid detection of the tainted honey by hiding the import source.

The FDA has reacted predictably.

Edited to add - their honey does not come in fancy containers like the Savannah Bee Company and all they sell is honey.

12. My sister told me that Tupelo honey is metabolized differently than regular honey and that diabetics

can consume more of it without having to worry about their blood sugar as much. Does anyone if this is true. Sorry, know this is a little off topic.

Aug. 24, 2006 -- One honey is as good as another -- at least as far as glucose content is concerned.

That's the finding of San Diego State University researchers who investigated claims that some honeys have a better glycemic index than others.

Glycemic index is a measure of a food's effects on blood sugar. Foods with a high glycemic index -- starchy foods, for example -- aren't good for people with diabetesdiabetes, or for people trying to lose weight.

Jennifer Ilana Ischayek, RD, and Mark Kern, PhD, RD, analyzed four kinds of honey. They looked at buckwheat honey from Oregon, clover honey from Oregon, cotton honey from California, and tupelo honey from Florida.

Unlike some earlier studies, they compared apples to apples -- that is, they made sure each honey sample contained the same amount of carbohydrates.

They found very little difference in the honeys' glycemic indices. They ranged from 69.13 to 74.14. All were very close to table sugar's glycemic index of 68.

However, Ischayek and Kern suggest that honey is probably better for you than table sugar. They note that it's sweeter, so you can use less and thus consume fewer calories. And, they say, honey has healthful antioxidant and prebiotic properties.

The study, funded by the National Honey Board, appears in the August issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

It is the old story of Chinese manufacturers ignoring (their own government's) guidelines to refrain from the use of ultra-powerful antibiotic like chloramphenicol to make a quick buck and American importers and the FDA ignoring the issue (in other words, capitalism as usual). Interpreting such incidents as an attempt by "China to poison America" is, frankly, stupid.

20. MY honey certainly doesn't come from China

I'm surrounded by local honey producers. In fact, I can't see a reason WHY we need to import honey from overseas.

To me, this is like all those apple producers who are now destroying their trees. They can't compete because of the the marginally lower prices of Chinese apple products.

And yet, people don't realize that the food they've eaten for years is now coming from another continent.

If people were truly educated as to WHERE their food comes from and given a REAL CHOICE, we wouldn't have these problems.

During the melamine dog food incident, it was the same way. Some companies voluntarily 'fessed up; others kept mum. I had to call the companies and confront them to see if they imported products from China. I guess they HAVE to tell you that. I just told them that if any portion of their product came from China, they just lost a customer.

I finally found an organic supplier (Timberwolf), who showed me where all their products came from. I've stuck with them ever since.

A lot of their soaps and the like have honey in them, and I wonder where they get their honey from.
