Exercise & Fitness is on just about everybody’s list this time of year.
If you would like 2009 to be the year that fitness stays on your list, while you take pounds off your waist, then visit the DU Exercise & Fitness forum. We welcome everyone starting an exercise routine, those who have been at it for a while & those who are just thinking about it.

We used to have daily check-ins which sort of fell by the wayside, but they were very motivating. I didn't want to log onto DU until I could report that I had worked out that day. It sounds silly, but it worked! My consistency rate went way up! And when you're consistent, you see results.

We have one of the worst health care systems in the developed world. Thirty minutes a day of exercise, is a small amount to invest, in an effort to keep out of it. But it helps to have a buddy system. :D So stop by, share your goals, & tell us what activity did today!

Here is an inspirational post on the benefits of fitness by Uben:

3. Can you recommend any fitness activities that can be done from my recliner?
Sorry...couldn't resist...my laziness is one of my trademarks among friends who know me well, and my ever-expanding waistline is proof.

Maybe I will stop by. I was on a walking routine all summer. Didn't lose an ounce, but as I was reminded frequently by others in the walking group...it's good for your heart.

4. Sure I can.
Fidget. If you're sitting at your desk, get those legs and feet moving. Sort of like Foot Loose. It burns more calories. Lift some weights. You can do that sitting. Muscles burn more calories.

I loss 80# last year and that's how I started because of my back.

8. Good job!
My back is a bugger, too. I'm sure the front and down pull of the belly/hips doesn't help. Thanks for the suggestions.

5. I love my recliner, too!
I'm a couch potato by nature. I have to force myself to workout. Once I get moving I actually enjoy it, but it's the getting there that's the hard part!

When I was working, I kept a dumbbell at my desk. I could do some shoulder, bicep & tricep work during the day. Some co-workers teased me at first, but after a while, a few of my co-workers would borrow my dumbbell for their sessions.

There are exercise videos that feature workouts in chairs. ;)

7. Hmmm...I have dumbells...somewhere.
I will seek them out. I really have to do something. I'm getting too old to get away with such slothfulness.

6. Thank you for the post
I wasn't aware of this group. I have to lose >50pounds so maybe daily checkins will help me be

consistant.
