3 arrested in N. California gang rape of lesbian

Jan 1, 2:59 PM (ET)

RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) - One man and two teens have been arrested on suspicion of gang-raping a woman last month in the San Francisco Bay area while allegedly taunting her for being a lesbian, police said Thursday as they searched for a fourth suspect.

Officers arrested Humberto Hernandez Salvador at his Richmond home Wednesday night, Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan said. The 31-year-old is being held without bail on gang rape, kidnapping and carjacking charges.

Police on Wednesday also arrested a 15-year-old Richmond boy and a 16-year-old Hercules boy, who were being held at a juvenile detention center on similar charges. Their names were not released.

Police would not detail each person's alleged involvement in the attack but said tips from local residents led to the arrests.

Investigators are still seeking 21-year-old Josue Gonzalez, who had prior addresses in San Rafael and Richmond, on a $1 million arrest warrant for gang rape, kidnapping and carjacking, police said. Gonzalez was called by the nickname "Pato" during the attack and is considered armed and dangerous, Gagan said

I hope they throw all these bastards under the jail. I won't say what I'd really prefer.

- But it involves a long sharp knife, and testes....

Arrested in Calif. Lesbian's 'Extreme' Gang Rape

Josue Gonzalez
RICHMOND, Calif. — Two men and two teens have been arrested on suspicion of gang-raping a woman last month in the San Francisco Bay area while allegedly taunting her for being a lesbian, police said Thursday.

Josue Gonzalez, 21, turned himself in Thursday after police announced they were searching for him. He was wanted on charges of gang rape, kidnapping and carjacking.

8. I think that religious condemnation shares a bit of the blame for this crime.
I am thrilled they caught these thugs, but I am concerned that this type of crime is actually encouraged by the fundamentalist religious community that demonizes, and dehumanizes different groups, religions, and races.

My thought is that there are some who look for socially acceptable reasons to act violently or criminaly. While the phred phelps's of this world will never admit to trying to create an environment where this type of crime could flourish, I have a feeling that he would be pleased as punch if it happend more often. His reaction to the torture and murder of Mathew Shepard should suffice as evidence to support this opinion.

oh, and before I get flamed, please notice that i said "fundamentalist" meaning the type that actively endorses bigotry against the homosexual community

11. Well you dont have to attend the church
All you have to do is be exposed to the bigotry. I believe California recently had some same-sex marriage proposal on the ballot. The backwash from this type of campaign can affect the feeble-minded.

Some people really do look for "socially acceptable" outlets for their rage. I work with a couple people who are constantly framing every discussion into this format:

"Well if the fucker broke into my house, I would shoot him three times and drag him back inside and shoot him gain if he escaped."

"If that happened to me, or my family, I will kill the fucker right there in the court room"

"I wish someone would steal a purse in front of me, I carry a conceiled weapon"

How about abortion clinic bombing?

bla bla bla

I will omit the more racist, religious, and homophobic comments I hear.

Now, when the religious community publicly says a group will burn in hell, or that god hates them, or watever, I do feel there is a group out there who would take the que. A few years ago, a topless bar opened near a funamentalist church where I live. The congregation prayed that God would tear it down. Soon, one of their members was arrested for arson.

It is possible I supppose, butt I think it is more likely to happen if someone really believes they wll win the approval of their God, or their culture.

I wonder if the columbine shooters were looking for approval of some group in a sick way. Mc Veigh sure was, so was Rudloph, the abortion clinic bomber.

30. Right, I do not know. But again, it is their hatred of her sexuality.
It was this hatred that caught my eye. It was not the hatred of her race, it was the fact that she was a lesbian. This type of hatred is most often endorsed by the fundamentalist community. I think it trickles into the larger community.

Oh, we can do this to him or her because they have nobody. This reasoning is also why prostitutes are often targets. trash, disposable, not human.

15. Horrific treatment of GLBTQ people is encouraged by our society in many ways.
There are the violent extremists. There are the fundamentalist preachers screaming from the pulpits about "abominations." There are the highly-funded, cleverly marketed political campaigns to legitimize bigotry in every state and at the federal level. And there is the passive acceptance of all those things, signaled by the actions and non-actions of our leaders.

Young, Old, Male, Female, this race, that race. It is pervasive. Religion transends race, age, and culture. Some would say it actually defines these.

24. Good point. Religion is the only "rational" excuse given for the hatred.
But, as you say, the hatred itself emanates out into the society at large, so that everyone - religious or not - is influenced.

Even gay people are influenced. Many of us struggle with feelings of shame.

until after he was rejected by his "creator"? I think that rejection is a primal fear.

The worst punishment is excommunication. No tribe ment that you would die alone to the sabertooth tiger. To escape the possibility of this rejection ... rejection by the creator, rejection from the tribe, people are willing to do all kinds of criminal things.

Now consider the issue of same-sex marriage in this context. A group of people are not allowed to form their own legal and social communities. This forces the effects of excommunication.

as horrible as the crime was, they are victims too. Assuming they actually did it, which is a big if. The cops could have just rounded up the "usual suspects," ie Latinos, especially if they're immigrants.

44. No, actually when it comes to rape, it isn't only the powerless who offend.

Rape is one of those crimes that is perpetrated regardless of class, race, religion, etc. It amazes me that people are so ill-informed.

As far as their ethnicity... the original report contained descriptions of the criminals. It seems likely that since the attack took close to an hour the victim got a decent look at them. It's an easy assumption that after the first three were caught, they gave up the fourth. Or maybe she had already identified him from pics. What ethnicity they are, doesn't matter. They are filth regardless.

To say that these criminals are victims too is probably one of the earliest asshole comments of the year. I hope you are never raped, but if you are, I guarantee you'll lose that opinion fast.
