Scary sight at First Night in Raleigh...
On a frigid, windy night in Raleigh, my wife and I were walking in the main stage area and passed dozens of men that appeared to be from 18 to 40 in age with large crosses and many signs - repent sinner, etc - screaming damning bible verses at the attendees. We have no idea who they are, but to us a sign of the times that the Acorn that represented the midnight object drop in Raleigh was not the only nut around!

One really bright spot was seeing Christine Lavin (one of the performers) doing loads of anti Bush/Cheney songs (some great sidesplitting lyrics, wish I could remember them). Quite a few obviously pissed off Republicans left the venue! It was priceless!

Happy New Year, all -

1. Why does someone always have to ruin other folks good time?
Wonder if they were Phelpses of the Westboro talibabtis 'church'?
Maybe just inspired by them...
We live up near Yanceyville, we don't see those kind of people round here.
We have Christian neighbors not KKKreestian, for which we are immensely grateful.
I am so sick of those people that can't mind their own damn business trying to force their mindsick views on other people. I begin to think that religion should be treated as a psychosis.
Being gay I have had more than my share of crap from them, from Anita Brayant(sic) to the folks that tried to burn a cross on my yard years ago in nazibama.

2. Why is their right to free speech ruining the night.
These kinds of people yell on street corners daily. I just ignore them and continue with my good time.

4. Their free speech is one thing, but asking WHY they feel compelled to go
scream at other people just having a good time was the question.

3. I guess we can count our lucky stars
that the crosses weren't on fire.

This time.

They musta driv alla way up from Cumberland and Halifax Counties jest ta git ta the big city. I'd've gladly given my husbear a bigfat, sloppy kiss right there just to watch their heads explode. Little librul troublemaker that I am

Sometimes I think we just ought to rope off the southeastern part of the state and give it to SC. They seem to like that kind of stuff down there.

Glad I live in a quiet, rural, and blue county :)
