...do not ever use Priceline.com. Suffice to say that the company was founded on a pack of lies and deception which continues to this day.

The only sure fire way to deal with this fradulent, scam of a rip off of a company is through word of mouth.

7. I'm kind of cautious in general of using sites like priceline or travelocity

I'm a bit cautious about using sites like priceline or travelocity in general. One time I worked at a hotel and what this one company that was kind of like these sites - I don't remember the specific name off hand - did was told a guy who had made a reservation through them that they had a room at the hotel I was working at. Needless to say they had never contacted us about the reservation, and if they had we would've told them that there were no rooms that night - not only at our place but throughout the whole area. Needless to say we were all surprised when the guy and his wife showed up. We were able to find them a room at a nearby hotel comparable to what they would've gotten at our place. The guy confronted them on the phone right there and it became obvious pretty quickly that they were the ones at fault. We ended our relationship with the company, and instructed the front desk staff to refuse any reservations from that company. I'd rather go through the company's own reservations system because of this.
