"To tame the savageness of man and to make gentle the life of this world"
Edited on Wed Dec-24-08 10:23 PM by Libertyfirst
The night of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination Bobby Kennedy asked us to dedicate ourselves to the goal the greeks had set so long ago: "to tame the savageness of man and to make gentle the life of this world."

So many people are suffering tonight, some are feeling abandoned and disappointed, some are cold and hungary, some are homeless, some are all alone, some are in harms way, some are very scared, some have a newly empty chair, and some are suffering and in physical pain. But everywhere people are in great trouble and great pain.

I am in pain also tonight, the worse pain I have ever known. Pain no one has caused and no one can ease.

But tonight I am going to re-dedicate myself " to tame the savageness of man and to make gentle the life of the world."

I hope some of you will join me.

1. If I could ease your pain, I would.........
Maybe that's what we all would be best doing - easing each other's pain.

I wish you surcease, I wish you peace.

Welcome.

Solace to you, LibertyFirst, because in your own pain you're thinking of others hurting too. Your post is so right. I'm in a bad situation but I've been in worse, and I'm thinking tonight of those in the worst of it, in their own way. Many hurts can't be prevented or relieved, but as many can be. The Greek's quote summarizes in so few words what I hope for the world too. I wouldn't have thought of that speech of RFK's on Christmas Eve, just because of the context it was given in, but the thought fits perfectly tonight.

I was about to say "peace to you" and that made me think of the Jewish word "shalom", meaning wholeness as well as peace. There is something essentially true in that word.

A hug to you, LF.

3. I hope you will soon be free of your pain
and that blessings will find you in the new year. It is a wonderful goal to which you dedicate yourself. Thanks for the inspiration.
