Obama adopts sober style as he gets ready
http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUKTRE4BI5KT20081219?pageNumber=1&virtualBrandChannel=0

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Bill Clinton could erupt in red-faced rage while George W. Bush had his Texas swagger. So far, President-elect Barack Obama has ditched lofty rhetoric in favor of a sober style as he prepares to take power.

Obama's public appearances since he was elected on November 4 have been largely limited to a series of news conferences to announce members of his incoming administration.

In these events, the 47-year-old former Illinois senator has announced his choices and described their tasks in a workmanlike manner, as if weighed down by the economic and national security challenges that await him.

His campaign rhetoric was long on hope and idealism but since defeating Republican John McCain, Obama has focused on the task at hand and avoided straying from his talking points

1. "Sober" style?
As opposed to the "drunken sailor" style we've become accustomed to over the last eight years?

10. Bush was never able to manage a "sober" style, ...
... but basically this is the attitude almost every other president has tried to maintain.

2. There's obviously a typo in the first sentence of the article, surly the author meant
stagger, not swagger.

4. Texas swagger? Isn't he afraid of horses?
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 10:28 AM by JohnnieGordon
Unless it's just something someone made up, I heard Bush is afraid of horses and that's why his farm doesn't have any. Or if he does own horses, he's afraid to ride them. Dime-store cowboys who are afraid of horses don't have "Texas swagger."

5. The whole farm persona was given to him by his overlords
He never was a resident of a ranch/farm, Prairie Chapel was only a gop front or prop, whichever, so they could sell bushes sorry ass to the gullible as a regular guy.

6. I don't describe Obama's style as "sober"
but rather "businesslike". It is obvious that he is in charge and is doing his best to calm fears, especially about the economy. Bush has made such a mess of things that it will take a lot of hard work just to get back to where we were a couple of years ago, much less back to the economy of 1999.

8. I saw Obama on TV last night. He looked very sober. And very tired.
I hope he has a good vacation.
