India May Attack Certain Targets In Pakistan, Military On High Alert
Source: AHN

New Delhi, India (AHN) - Indian military is ready for an operations against "precision" targets in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, if the neighboring country fails to cooperate in pinning down the terrorists in its country, according to a report by a U.S. private intelligence company.

Pakistan is under pressure from the West and the Indian government to dismantle terrorists cells and crack down on Islamic militants, who seeked safe haven in the country.

"These most likely would take the form of unilateral precision strikes inside Pakistan-administered Kashmir, along with special forces action on the ground in Pakistan proper," Global Intelligence Service, Stratfor said in its latest report, according to PressTV news agency.

"Sources have indicated to Stratfor that New Delhi is going through the diplomatic motions in order to give Pakistan the opportunity to take care of the militant problem itself - but the Indians know that Islamabad has neither the will nor the capability to address their concerns," the agency said.

On Nov. 26, terrorists killed 164 people in India in attacks targeting Mumbai's central railway station, two five-star hotels, a Jewish center and a hospital. In addition, eight militants were killed by the security forces.

India has consistently said that it has evidence against a certain "elements" who are operating from Pakistan, but some of the political analysts said that India is not likely to risk war by escalating the situation.

Last week, U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown made an unexpected stopover in India to meet with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh to talk on the security situation in the region, after the country faced brutal terror attacks in Mumbai.

Pakistan said that the security forces have detained several dozens of members liked to militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which is being accused of planning the Mumbai attacks.

"New Delhi has little choice but to respond," Austin, Texas-based Stratfor said in a report today on Saturday, according to Bloomberg. "And if Islamabad will not cooperate in controlling the militants, India will have to take unilateral action."

The report said India has increased its alert level and has Border Security Force prepared for any potential attack on Dec. 18. India has around 45,000 troops deployed along the 2,030-mile border with Pakistan, Stratfor said.

2. A war between India and Pakistan should thoroughly refresh the news cycle.
Forget economic and industrial bailouts, jackass Baptist Preachers, Republican Fascists leaving office, criminals in the State House and even a possible depression. It remains, a shooting war between nuclear powers trumps all concerns.

3. Especially when they are two 'allies',
and when we are doubling the number of troops in the neighboring country all the while our supply route is being effectively shut down. This is serious and bad news.

4. India Holds War Room Meeting
Source: The Nation(Pakistan)

NEW DELHI (Agencies) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired a high-level war room meeting in New Delhi on Saturday evening with senior ministers and defence chiefs to discuss the security preparedness.

The meeting lasted for over four hours and discussed the country’s security preparedness and selective strikes on terror camps across the border.

Defence Minister AK Antony, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, National Security Advisor MK Narayanan, senior armed forces officials including all the three services chiefs and intelligence chiefs attended the meeting.

The Indian Prime Minister evaluated the security preparedness across the country and the troop response, sources in government said, reported Indian media. The exercise came a day after India put its armed forces on high alert.

“The army, navy and air force, which were already on alert, were Friday put on high alert,” an Indian defence source said on condition of anonymity.

“The services were asked to put a suitable mechanism in place to ensure proper analysis and follow-up of all relevant inputs. The security of vital coastal and offshore assets was discussed with a view to ensuring that these remained fully secured,’ defence spokesman Sitanshu Kar said recently.

5. US think tank sees ‘real’ threat of war
Dec. 20 (PTI): The possibility of Indian military strikes against Pakistan is “very real” and “palpable”, leading US think tank Stratfor has said.

Stratfor has termed the action taken by Islamabad against the Lashkar-e-Toiba as “token” and said New Delhi was “unconvinced” by it.

India is not likely to be satisfied with the banning of a couple of militant groups and a “few insincere” house arrests, it added.

“Pakistan has taken some token measures against groups India asserts were responsible for the November attack in Mumbai, but India (and the US) remains unconvinced,” said Stratfor, a private intelligence agency that provides strategic inputs on business, economic, security and geopolitical affairs.

“The threat of an Indian military strike is very real. All available eyes need to watch for troop movements…. The diplomatic posturing continues, but the threat of war is palpable.”

India says Lashkar carried out the Mumbai strikes, an assertion supported by Britain and other world powers, but Pakistan claims there is no evidence.

Stratfor said the militant groups that were under Pakistani spy agency ISI’s control several years earlier had now increased their autonomy and spread their networks inside India.
