Rick Warren: Just Say No, Thanks
It is now up to Warren to step aside as the invocationer. That is the honorable thing to do. If he doesn't disinvite himself, he is admitting that his ambition is more powerful than his honor and religion.

1. While that's a nice idea, and sort of solves a bit of a problem...
it's not Rick's fault.

He has been Rick all along. It's not like he changed his views (or actions) on things SINCE he was invited to give the invocation. Everybody knew what they were getting.

The responsibility to fix this (or not) does not lie with Rick Warren.

2. Actually, I think it's up to Obama to do the right thing - it was his mistake.

4. Bwahahahaha! "The honorable thing to do!"
Oh mercy! If it waltzed up, whistling "Dixie" and bit Mr. Warren in his ample behind, he still wouldn't recognize "the honorable thing to do."

7. I see no honor in him.
From listening to Rick, it is abundately obvious that he is the typical ambitious, greedy, hypocritical bible shill. If he wants to continue to viewed by the ignorant as a man of God and virtue, he must capitulate on this and step aside. He will then be hailed as a martyr by his followers and will defuse a hugely divisive issue. It will be a win-win for him.

5. Alot of what I have been reading online from Rick's followers
is that they want him to USE this opportunity to preach and gain a place at the table with the Obama admin..and bring Obama around..and get him to stop abortion..and give Rick a public forum to speak out against gay marriage...
they are fueled up over this.
and thats what I was afraid would happen.

8. Not a chance.
Warren is as arrogant and self righteous as any one of those mega church preachers. Just because he occasionally speaks out on the subjects of poverty and the environment doesn't mean he deserves to be speaking at what should be a secular and unifying event.

His stance on women and gays is 13th century. He's not going to change his positions. He's hoping for a seat at the table so he can influence Obama's. It won't happen but he's arrogant enough to believe being invited to speak is a foot in the door of policy making.

Obama blew it with this. Anyone with such divisive views who is so outspoken about them should not share the stage with someone who spent his entire campaign advocating change.
