Warren's stand on Prop 8 is important. So are his views on abortion and women in general. None of those things and other issues I may not have listed should be forgotten.
However, IMHO his comparison of homosexuality with pedophilia is where he makes the gravest mistake and accusation. He reinforces some people's ideas that tie them together. Warren puts gay people on par with people who molest children which is considered one of the worst, if not the worst, crime imaginable. Even in prison, pedophiles are on the bottom.
This is why I consider him and his message so dangerous. His ideas are horrible enough anyway, but perpetuating the pedophilia myth is an idea that is guaranteed to ramp up hostility and hysteria. This adds more to the danger that gays can face every day.
So I don't buy ANY of the rationalizations about political expediency or that PE Obama will be good for LGBT in the end. Or the fact that Reverend Lowery is also going to speak. Warren is being put front and center on a hugely important and symbolic day. It symbolically ratifies everything he stands for whether it is meant to or not.
I consider giving Warren a stage a HUGE mistake for this reason. The other reasons just add to the damage. IMHO, I don't see how giving anybody who equates homosexuality and pedophilia any kind of forum at all is a good or justifiable idea.
