The vice president of the United States has admitted to war crimes
(LTTE To congress critters, not that it will make a difference if we continue to have this collective YAWN)

The Vice President of the United States admitted to a WAR CRIME. The kind that we prosecuted Japanese and Germans for at both the IMT in Tokyo and Nuremberg. He also admitted to a war crime for which we prosecuted US Troops for, back in 1901 in Manila

I am now demanding that there is an impeachment of the US Vice President and further his criminal prosecution. Service-members are currently seating in jail over the events at Abu Ghraib, some of them an E-2 when the crime was committed. We now know the policy went all the way to the White House. Time to prosecute these people.

ENOUGH!

As a child of a holocaust survivor I cannot remain silent, for my silence means I agree with these war crimes. I have written about this over the last eight years to your office. It is time to do the moral thing.

-----

Yes he can be impeached even after leaving office, and chiefly he can be PROSECUTED for these crimes

If they are swept under the rug, then they win

1. And to what war crime did he admit? You don't mention it in the letter.

3. Torture, water-boarding, anybody familiar with the IMT (both of them)
or the 1901 prosecution knows this. And there is oodles of correspondence on this

Dick Chenney is now an admitted war criminal, and that was a voluntary admission... almost as good as guilty your honor

2. Everyone knows how this will turn out. Cheney will be the guy who everyone pins
the blame on, then Dick will croak a la William Casey and successfully bury another generation of war crimes, war profiteering and treason.

5. And if that is the case, then this country is done for
This nation NEEDS this to go forth to prosecution, why I waste my time writing my congress critters, and ooohhh booy they are democrats, at least they MIGHT read them. If they were republicans there is this wonderful thing called a shredder

At this point I am pretty much convinced that this is bipartisan in nature, and this is the nature of empire

4. I hope you don't mind if I cross post here. We are also discussing
this on another thread.

I wish we could do something as the people have a right to do. We need a standard bearer or a lawyer that has the gonads to make something happen.

6. No problem and the first step is to take to the streets
not that taking to the streets is gonna happen any time soon

The PEOPLE need to demand it, I just took the petitioning of your government route... but a lone voice, or a few, will do nothing

We need MILLIONS of letters, but that ain't gonna happen

The murican people are sleep walking through history, like the Germans did back in the day

7. Very true. When we are shot in the streets because the government
is above the law and can murder it's own people maybe someone will get a clue.

9. That has already happened, remember Jose Padilla?
and that didn't wake up the people either

Only when the full extent of the crash hits Muricans, then and only then they might go, WHAT HAPPENED?

I have been screaming my way to the point of being hoarse for the last few years. IN fact started the say after 9.11 calling members of congress telling them NOT to allow the internment of Arab Americans... that was a victory... but also because the Military said no.

Overall it has been an exercise in futility

12. US Legal precedent, that is easy
actually

ANd it goes back to the prosecution of US Troops who used it in Manila in 1901, did I mention they met a rope at the end of the process

Also the International Military Tribunals, specifically Tokyo, prosecuted Officers of the Imperial Japanese Army for it, and they also met a rope,

There is more, it is specifically mentioned in the Geneval Conventions of 1948 (which we signed), the UN Torture Conventions (which we signed) and I might add the 1996 torture law passed by the US Congress, did I mention that last one carries the death penalty?

This is the legal background in very broad stokes, why ... Mukasey refused to answer that question to the committee, is water boarding torture?

His out... that is a pardon. And given that his admission would mean the coverup of a crime, that POTENTIALLY could send the country into a constitutional crisis... of course that would be in a country that was already aware that water boarding is torture... not in this country where politics take precedence over international and national laws and some men are above the law.

17. If we see any impeachment it will be in the NEXT Congress
and that means UNDER THE NEXT president, and if Obama pardons, he will be a one termer

Given the economic disaster...

But the problem is not the pardon, is that there are people, yes even here on DU, that are not aware that he just admitted to a war crime... after all water boarding has not been proven to be torture :sarcasm:
