Cake request for 3-year-old Hitler namesake denied
Talk about A-Hole parents. :wtf: :puke:

From Associated Press
December 16, 2008 7:44 PM EST

EASTON, Pennsylvania - The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child's full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance.

Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the nearby ShopRite, but also with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article about the cake.

Heath Campbell, who is 35, said in an interview Tuesday that people should look forward, not back, and accept change.

"They need to accept a name. A name's a name. The kid isn't going to grow up and do what (Hitler) did," he said

1. Fuck the parents
They've invited him to a life of hell. I'm 35 and would NEVER consider putting my kid through that. Some people simply shouldn't breed. Nobody should breed Hilters.

5. The name is bad enough, but the house is apparently full of
Nazi decor. And, his sisters have equally disgusting names. The kid might not grow up to 'BE' Hitler, but he'll sure as shit be a racist.

Seriously, they should take those kids away. Child abuse. Pure and simple.

But I was actually harping on the father for his visual lack of physical (and quite certainly mental) human superiority. Always funny that those who claim that whites are the master race are usually the worst specimens white folks have to offer.

Chances are that kid and his sisters are not going to be very popular in school...a combination of how they will be raised and those awful names.

9. My grandfather's middle name was Adolf.
Considering he was born near the beginning of the 20th century it wasn't anything to do with Hitler of course, but his CO on the Quincey during WWII made good spirited jokes about it...it still was embarassing.

Methinks only a racist asshole would call his son Adolf Hitler...or perhaps a garden variety asshole who thinks "A Boy called Sue" gave a really good idea on how to raise a tough kid.

Daddy didn't name him George Walker Bush.

On edit: I can, however, see this as a possible First Amendment issue. Like pharmacists who refuse to dispense prescribed birth control or "morning after" pills, when one is selling to the public, it is the public you serve.

I have NO sympathy for the parents, and hope Child Protection is watching them closely.

27. I think that businesses have the right to refuse service to individuals
as long as they aren't discriminating against a "protected" group of people. I don't know for sure, but I think that any business can refuse to provide a service to an individual.

Unless people named Adolph Hitler are a "protected" group, I think that the store is within its rights to refuse service.

61. As far as I know, but I'm not a legal expert by any means.
My understanding is that private businesses have the right to refuse services they don't want to perform or to refuse services to an individual who is not a member of a protected group.

In other word, a business can put up a sign saying "No shirt, no shoes, no service" but they can't refuse to serve an African American customer just because the customer is African American.

I would think that a business could refuse to put words they disagree with on a cake. I'm sure that businesses routinely refuse to decorate cakes with obscenities, for instance. They probably get asked.

32. I Think The Parents Are Absolute Assholes But I Think Shoprite Is 100% In The Wrong.
The parents are assholes, granted. But shoprite has no right to deny the boy a cake with his legal name on it. They don't like the name? Tough shit. It isn't their name or their kid. Regardless of the distaste of the name, the boy is still an innocent child and it is just in fact a name. He deserves his name on a cake the same as any other kid.

The pharmacists aren't discriminating against women. They are standing steadfast in their position that aborting a baby is wrong, just as shoprite was steadfast in their position to not serve a child named adolf hitler. The pharmacists' qualms are with the concept of killing life, not considering women to be unequal to men.

Shoprite was 100% in the wrong in my opinion, same as the pharmacist would be.

46. Is the child purchasing the cake with his own income?
"The pharmacists aren't discriminating against women."

Yes, they are. They're misogynists extraordinaire.

"They are standing steadfast in their position that aborting a baby is wrong,"

They're forcing women to have pregnancies against their will.

"The pharmacists' qualms are with the concept of killing life, not considering women to be unequal to men. "

The pharmacist has no problem in selling condoms, which kills gametes from males, which is exactly the same. I'm willing to bet he has no problem masturbating either. Which also kills gametes. The pharmacist is also violating his hippocratic oath, which all persons in the medical service community are morally obligated to uphold. I'm not aware of any such oath among cake decorators.

"just as shoprite was steadfast in their position to not serve a child named adolf hitler."

This is a reduction to the absurd. You're arguing that business do not have the right to reject customers. I just read another thread where you support a billboard business refuses service to atheist customers. Weren't you just bringing up the word "hupocrite." Hmm, white supremacy... radical anti-abortionism... anti-atheism... I'm sorry, I'm getting off track...

75. Wrong.
I'm taking the right position as always. The father is an asshole and a racist piece of shit. But the store is wrong for refusing to print the child's fucking name on a birthday cake. I don't give a shit how much they think the name is distasteful (as it obviously is). They should write the name on the cake and then they can feel free to talk about how much of a piece of shit he is for naming his kid that afterwards. But it's still the kid's legal name and the kid has the same right as anyone else to have HIS name put on a cake, regardless of how someone feels about his name. Regardless of what it represents, it is still just a fucking name. The kid is going to go through enough hell already from his peers because his piece of shit father named him that. Now you and others are sitting here condoning stores harassing the child as well because of a name he didn't choose himself? I find the objection to be pathetic. So we don't like what the father named the kid. That means we should refuse to allow the child to have the name that WE don't like on his own birthday cake? Use your fucking head.

67. Shoprite was more than fair to these people.
They were willing to sell them the cake with a messae. They just weren't willing to put Hitler on it. They were willing to leave room for the parents to do it themselves. Hopefully these idiots for "parents" realize how idiotic they are.

Just because they don't like the name doesn't mean they should be justified in refusing to print it. I find the precedent to be pathetic.

66. I've been thinking about this argument since the story popped up a few days ago.
I'm not sure what the legal parallels are. I think businesses can refuse business for many reasons. On the other hand, pharmacies are usually governed by the law of the state and they don't have the authority to deny service. It's definitely a slippery slope.

86. Granted.
I think the pharmacy instance is far more damaging as well, and didn't mean it to be an equal analogy, just an example. In logical essence they are similar. Regardless of what the name represents, it is still just a name and a legal one at that. Just because the store legally can refuse to print it doesn't make them in the right to have done so. This child will suffer enough abuse already through life because of the name his asshole father chose to give him. To condone the discrimination of this child just based on his name is what I find objectionable. The kid is an innocent pawn in this. It's his name. Print in on the damn cake and talk about your disgust afterwards. I think it sets a horrible precedent.

Think about it: How would we react if a store refused to print Obama's middle name on a cake? Isn't that exactly the same? Don't some view 'Hussein' as immensely offensive as well? Sure, Saddam doesn't come close to the caliber of hitler, but to some wasn't he still brutal enough? If it's ok to refuse to print the middle name hitler, wouldn't those condoning it also have to condone a store refusing to put Obama's middle name on a cake? Do you really think those in this thread condoning the action would also condone the latter?

Shoprite was wrong.

92. So, in your opinion, refusing a service here is the same as refusing to sell birth control?
Because that seems like what you're saying. If that's the case, then you're saying that a pharmacist who specifically acts to keep women from controlling their own destiny (within his power, of course) is the same thing as a store that chooses not to condone honoring one of the most heinous mass-murderers in history.

Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 12:52 PM by PelosiFan
Or how about if they named him "Fuck Off You Asshole" ... don't they have a right to deny making something that contains profanity? Just like states that don't allow vanity plates with offensive terms on them. It's perfectly reasonable to refuse to decorate the cake with something as offensive as "Adolf Hitler." And you taking a stance on this like you are is, well, not unexpected.

I mean, come on, giving one child a name of "Adolph Hitler" and another one the middle name of "Aryan Nation"?

Those kids are going to require lots of therapy when they grow up. I'm sure the parents won't mind shelling out several thousand dollars per month for that.

Seriously.. at what point does the state step in and say "Umm.. no. You can fuck yourselves, but you CAN NOT fuck your kids for live".

At some point where does "Bad Judgement" turn into "Child Abuse"?

How many parents are going to allow their kid to play with "Hitler"? What is the initial impression of the kid who starts first grade with a name like that?

I feel so sorry for kids who are born to parents like this.

69. My BIL married a woman whose child was named Aryan.
The boy's father is a skinhead and she had never even heard of the Aryan Nation! After we told her what it was about, she didn't think anyone else would know what it was. We corrected her on that right away. How lame is it that she didn't even know what she was naming her child! They did start calling him Aaron after that though. Fortunately, they're divorced now as she was a immature whack-job.
