Helen Thomas asked a question that is clearly still unanswered ......
...... "Why did we *really* go to war?"

I was just watching that DISGUSTING renegade turd, Frank Gaffney on Matthews" show. He is word salading his answers as he tries to rewrite history in the mold of Cheney's continuing intent to deceive.

Why, indeed, did we go to war?

1. To avenge Poppy Bush, to prove that GWB has a bigger dick than GHWB,
to stop Saddam from using the Euro to sell oil, to protect big oil's interests in the Middle East.

Nothing that had anything to do with Democracy, liberation or even revenge for 9/11. If 9/11 had not happened they would have found some way to invade Iraq anyway.

A bunch of war-mongering Chicken-hawks...Every single last one of them.

3. You forgot, to reduce competition for Bushco's Saudi buddies, and
to increase oil profits by injecting uncertainty and short term scarcity into the oil markets (though I guess those would fall under 'protect big oil's interests...').

6. You are right. Haliburton and Carlyle were big factors too.
Cheney and BushCo became millionaires thanks to this war.

13. because every so often
we must enter into a conflict so the pentagon and their contractor buddies can justify their gargantuan budgets...and like vietnam, the CIA and the high-tech weapon industry love having a little real-world test bed for all the next-gen toys and techniques...it is not without irony that some people have nicknamed our little excursion as "playing in the sandbox"

14. the real, bottom line reason that we went to war against Iraq is . . .
that George W. Bush wanted, with all his heart, to be a "war president" . . . he got his wish, destroying one country and bankrupting another in the process . . .
