Just ate recalled peanut butter, am I supposed to die now?
Exactly what was the problem with the peanut butter? Should I not drive so as to not endanger others?

sure to tell them you ate recalled pb.

15. I know that you think all of this medical mumbo jumbo is a
scam, but do me a fovor, don't call 9.11

I don't want my brothers and sisters in EMS to have somebody like you refuse their service and deny them the courtesy of an AMA

And you know exactly what that is

By the way, if you get flu like symptoms it does apply

Salmonella ain't no joke, but I guess in yuor case you may call them (or rather be taken to the hostpital) after kidney failure kicks in

28. Had to look up what you were referring to

In that situation I was talking about something where the person didn't make the call someone else did. Completely different than if I were to call an ambulance service, or otherwise engage someone for medical services myself. But don't let facts get in the way of smarting off.

Or disoriented, again called implied consent

But I am sure you refuse to even acknowledge that

Why don't you use the goggle?

You might be surprised.

And yes I have taken plenty of unconscious people to the hospital and one actually threw a fit after they gave him the sugar he needed because we took him to the hospital

He'd be dead otherwise, but free to choose his medical care.

I guess he was a philosophical ally of yours.... the IVs were removed and we pointed to the door...

Key point, he was stable when that was done.

And I understand AMA's. I understand there are people who just do what a medical person tells them. And there are people who don't want to do what a doctor or someone recommends, it's their choice. It's a basic concept of freedom, I own my body.

8. you should freak out, run to the ER if you have the least little symptom,
and blame every little thing that happens to you for the next month on the peanut butter.

And anyone who dies within a month of eating this peanut butter, even if the symptoms don't resemble those of salmonella, and of course even if there is no stool culture or blood culture growing salmonella, well, THE PEANUT BUTTER KILLED THEM.

25. I totally agree with you that people should sue for corporate negligence. And I am
absolutely against "tort reform", which is code for "removing the people's right of recourse against slimy, motherfucking corporations". Do I think that it is an absolute abomination how unsafe our food supply (and that of our pets) has become, due to a lack of government oversight? - absofuckinlutely!!

My point was that people are losing their heads in response to the media-induced panic. Common sense and scientific, reality-based thinking are still called for. Someone rushed their kid to the ER because she ate PB and had a tummy ache - no diarrhea, no vomiting, no fever, just a tummy ache. And in terms of deaths, in the absence of a positive culture for Salmonella, and in the absence of the symptoms of Salmonella infection (and perhaps in the presence of other symptoms that don't go along with Salmonella infection) it doesn't make sense to blame a death on the peanut butter.

of gastrointestinal illness, including salmonella - ONLY if you are having diarrhea and/or vomiting to the point where you are getting dehydrated.

42. High Fever
Shakes

Diarrhea

Vomiting

All of those are markers that something is wrong, all of them together may mean your body might need antibiotics

Let them go on long enough, organ failure may occur

Of course you also have to think of high risk factors, (AGE, Diabetes, renal or heart disease)

And if you do not have medical insurrance, unfortunately your only choice is the ER

In an ideal world we would have single payer and you'd go see a doctor in the early stages, well before you are truly sick

56. Oh agreed
but if I ate any of the tainted PB

And I had any of those S&S I'd be calling the triage nurse

I fall in the high risk group

The way it is handled is that you call the triangle nurse on the phone and they make the decision whether you need to come in to be seen.

It is not the way it worked when I was growing up south of the border that my mom called and made the appointment.

Last year I had a very bad stomach flu, the triage nurse said, look drink plenty of fluids, make sure you eat a bland died and if you have not gotten better or have gotten worst in the next 24 hours call back...

Unsaid was, if it is really, and i mean REALLY bad, go to the ER

and bloating.

If you think it is worth the jar of PB, go ahead.

If you start to vomit and have diarrhea (which in my case always coincided) remember to drink a lot so you don't get dehydrated. Just put a couple of bottles of water in the bathroom. That is where you might spend a lot of time. If you can't keep anything down, you might need to go to the ER to have IV fluids administered.

Have at it

edit for spelling and to add: When I say "drink a lot" I mean stuff like water, juices, gatorade, etc. ... vodka, beer, rum, and other alcoholic beverages might not be helpful

40. the recall is a crap shoot
they recalled an entire production run because some of it was tainted. That means some of it is not, but why take a chance? Myself I had already eaten at least half a jar of 2111 product before anyone heard of the recall, but I also had some past stomach troubles that I could not explain. Ironically enough too, I just made a batch of cookies yesterday from potentially tainted PB. They should be okay as salmonella is not supposed to survive the baking any more than the potential salmonella from the eggs is. All the same, I am not chowing down on cookies yet.
