OK you know what? You're right, you guys win.
People who make 6 figures should be taxed at 90%.

Obama should only pick the people you want for his cabinet.

Obama should start doing what you want him to do.

Obama is fucking you over personally.

Today's Obama classic "Is Obama taking lessons from GWB on how to be President?

Works of fiction like Twilight are harming our children.

Rachael Maddow is a "bigot and a hypocrite."

Randi Rhodes is a "fucking bitch"

Just because Blagovitch was caught on tape trying to sell Obama's Senate seat doesn't mean he's guilty. Innocent till proven right? I mean he's a Democrat, he couldn't possibly be guilty. :eyes:

Wow, those were my lessons for the last few days on DU. Boy am I grateful for all this information. If I didn't know all these things I might be as stupid as a freeper.

1. One more pearl:
don't pay any attention/pass on by those threads with the above info in them. You know they're sure to annoy, don't reflect the majority of opinions on this board, and you'll be doing your blood pressure a favor.

26. Lost my password
Tried to get it sent to my e-mail account- but i registered a while ago and had to use a work account, which might be blocked (my IT department isn't that friendly to me). I don't know; all i know is I asked for a new password and couldn't get one, so eventually gave up and created a new account.

But who knows this might be an opportunity for you.

Just because Blagovitch was caught on tape trying to sell Obama's Senate seat doesn't mean he's guilty. Innocent till proven right? I mean he's a Democrat, he couldn't possibly be guilty.

The guy who said perhaps people should be taxed at 90% "if they made over 1xx,xxx a year" was an opinion, god forbid we share that here! Only ideas deemed suitable for the Collective. You have a right to disagree, just as he has a right to share an idea-- does it mean its law? Does it mean it is the gospel absolute truth?

Blagojevich, whatever we all believe, is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law because in this country people can claim ANYTHING they want to about you, with fabricated evidence, "eyewitness" accounts, professional/expert witnesses, etc. so to protect the average person from being sued/indicted to death we have this thing called a fair trial.

Lets be clear on this: I am not saying I think its some conspiracy to get the Governor, I think he is most likely guilty of the things they say he is, but my opinion matters not, and it is NOT a fact until he is found guilty in a court of law. There is a thing called the Rule of Law and thankfully we maintain some semblance of it even in Bush's America.

7. Yeah well had he not tried calling me out claiming that I drugged
myself up so I could make that kind of money, and had he not been such an asshole and had the kid had a fucking clue as to what it is I do for a living he may have not got as muchj crap as he did. Not to mention the fact that if you believe the government should take 90% of someone elses money but not yours you are a hypocrite.

12. Perhaps if you didn't ridicule his idea it wouldn't have come to name-calling?
It was a stupid argument to beging with, we should be able to respectfully disagree but still be agreeable.

And I don't personally think there is anything wrong with a very progressive tax system (not so progressive as 90% over 100k,however), if you would be open to a discussion about that please proceed :)

Edited on Sat Dec-13-08 03:24 PM by walldude
but that's not what his thread was about. And he was the one talking like anyone who made over 6 figures didn't deserve it. His thread came right after another thread I read claiming that software engineers were scum who looked down on blue collar workers and shouldn't be allowed to form a union. Too many people here trying to divide us. THey take their lessons from the Republicans to heart.

I don't come here much because I see this crap and then I get into flame wars and they don't do anything for anyone. I used to post threads that got 300 recs, now I just get into flame wars. I'm sure my time here is near it's end. Which is a damn shame because people like Swamp Rat, Sfexpat, JuniperX, Proud2Blib, Nance Greggs and a few others really had this place enjoyable for a few years. Now it's petty squabbling and bullshit.

The last straw for me was to see a work of fiction derided as destroying the morals of our children. That's not even freeper stupid, that is fascist bullshit. And it it were one person it would be different but there was a whole thread of people who jumped on the bandwagon.

Oh and this was my response to his OP: " 90% Tax rate.. And we wonder why the repukes think we're all nuts. Good luck with that" Not exactly what I would call "calling the guy out"

"Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right and here I am stuck in the middle with you."

Let it roll off. . . but pm the thread/post. I'd be interested in reading what this person wrote.

Just remember - it's just some person at the other end of the internet typing. Don't let the ones who disparage take up any space in your head. I've learned there are a lot of extremely angry acidic and toxic folks at DU. But there are also a lot of warm and kind individuals who have the best of intentions.

Take the best and leave the rest! :pals:

20. That would be me.
I made it clear to you that you that driving 16-20 hours a day, six days a week as you claimed was dangerous. And it is. Not just for you but for those smaller vehicles that are not built to have an 18 wheeler run over them.

This kid, as you call me, is mature enough in my 60 years, to realize that black beauties and west coasters are used to keep long distance haulers awake as long as needed. But, there is a downside. The addiction eventually leads to psycological problems and explosive temperaments. As most people know, something has to be taken to bring you down.

My father was a trucker his entire life. He cursed trucking deregulation implemented by the Carter administration. He said that it would lead to dangerous conditions for drivers and the public. Tandem trailers were made legal in the aftermath. Safety measures enacted by union contracts were ignored by the new wildcat trucking industry.

As for my comments on 6 figure taxation at a 90% rate, you blew your stack at me. I don't even know you, so why did you react as you did? It was nothing personal. As others explained, I didn't mean it applied to all pre 100K incomes. Besides, I am a socialist at the very heart of me. It was just time, I thought, to return to a taxation that places more of the burden on those who can best afford it. I never expect my expressions of opinion to be enacted into law. You shouldn't have flown off the handle so easily.

5. Wow, Who Is This "You Guys"
I must have missed his post. I certainly have never seen anyone who espoused all of those opinions. I have seen posts indicating those positions individually by individuals but never simultaneously.

For the record, I only agree with the first position (although a set figure has never been established and I would think it would be at least 7 figures). And please remember, the 90% would only be taxed on the portion you made above the limit so the overall tax rate would never be 90%.

If you are from a southern state you are pathetic and stupid.

15. Some people (I call them 'liberals') vote to elect those who will LISTEN to working class people.
When I voted for Obama, it was because he LISTENS and UNDERSTANDS. Guess what? I intend to continue to voice my OPINIONS regarding the issues that we face as a nation. That's why I vote. That's why I'm a liberal.

19. Well according to what I've been reading on DU Obama
does no such thing.

BTW that's the same reason I voted for him, he seems like one of the only politicians who still has a grasp of the reality I live in. But I'm not going to start hammering the guy until he gets into office. His cabinet picks are his picks, he can listen to these people or not, but reading here you'd think he betrayed the party.

And that line about Obama taking lessons from GWB on how to be president is a direct quote I read on DU this morning. To compare Obama to Bush because he doesn't want to talk about what's his face, is at the very least freeperish.

27. no one pays 90%
Most people in that tax bracket pay less taxes than the middle class.

I want to puke when the Republicans try that old canard about American businesses having the highest tax rate .

Truth is the rate means NOTHING . American businesses have a million loop holes to go through, They usually pay less actual traxes than the foreign companies pay their countries.

Our whole tax system is built for the corps.. they do not pay lobbyists for nothing .

The wealthy pay tax attorneys to help bring don their effective rate .
