Militants Torch 25 Vehicles Ferrying Supplies to NATO Forces(5th Attack in 10 Days)
Source: Pres Trust of India

Islamabad, Dec 13 (PTI) Heavily armed Taliban militants stormed a supply depot in Peshawar, torching 25 trucks meant to ferry vital supplies for US and NATO forces' operations in Afghanistan today, raising question marks over whether Washington would be able to use the Khyber pass route.

This was the fifth such attack in 10 days in the North West Frontier Province capital on freight terminals, indicating that the Pakistan government agencies appear to be losing control of the area.

In these continuing attacks, the Taliban militants have destroyed 300 containers as well as large number of armed escort vehicles.

The attacks are taking place despite paramilitary forces in vehicles fitted with guns and searchlights conducting regular patrols of the area and stationing of special anti-terrorist squads.

Supplies for US and NATO forces are brought by sea to the port of Karachi and then ferried overland to Afghanistan via the historic Khyber pass. En route from Peshawar to Jalalabad in Afghanistan, the convoys have to pass through miles of arid wastelands controlled by Taliban militia.

In the latest attacks, militants used petrol bombs to torch the trucks and oil containers in the pre-dawn raid and fled under the cover of darkness, police said.

The attack was the fourth one carried out by the militants within a week. More than a dozen containers were destroyed during an attack on Thursday.

1. So, Pakistan did move their military to the opposite border to protect itself from India.
Now the Taliban have direct access to supply convoys coming through Pakistan. Hmm, strange police training on day of attacks, perfect chess move for getting Pakistan and India (two nuclear states btw) distracted with one another. Pakistan now leaves the Taliban alone in the mountains of Pakistan on the Northern bordering Afghanistan. Now the convoys needed to resupply our troops are under attack. I suppose they are trying to starve their enemy out. Old fashioned tactics.. BTW, why are we in Afghanistan in the first place. It makes no sense to occupy a country in order to find Bin Ladin and gang. AND as we remain, Al Queda gains in strength, numbers, money, and organization. Meanwhile, the homeland (USA) goes bankrupt.
