Ky. auto dealers disappointed by McConnell's opposition to bailout
Ky. auto dealers disappointed by McConnell's opposition to bailout
By Jim Jordan - jjordan1@herald-leader.com

Kentucky automobile dealers were surprised, confused and saddened Thursday by Sen. Mitch McConnell's opposition to a financial bailout of the Big Three automakers.

"I have never been as disappointed as I am today," said Versailles Ford dealer Jack Kain, who was chairman of the National Association of Automobile Dealers Association in 2005.

Kain said he and other industry representatives met with Kentucky's congressional delegation on Tuesday in Washington and came away feeling that McConnell wouldn't oppose the bailout.

He told them, however, that there were several versions of the bailout bill being circulated in Congress and that he would have to read the final one before he could be certain, Kain said.

Ron Jackson, president of the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association, said it's "hard to know" why McConnell is opposing the bailout, but "the manufacturers have to have this money."

3. I've been hoping to see some such;
maybe others will folllow.

Along with wide distribution of facts that the states at issue have actually subsidized the foreign plants, etc., there's possibility that their electorates will become educated, or re-educated.

9. Ford's Westport Axle plant in Louisville hate the SOB too. . . I know
you were referring to dealers, but they are just part of the operations. My neighbor runs and owns a Chevrolet dealership here in a small town in Indiana. I know for a fact that he's a god-damn republican. I get a chance, I'll ask him what he thinks about how his fucking republican senators are acting!

10. McConnell's wife is Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao
Elaine Chao-she and he both are anti union and anti labor. More often than not, people in KY are surprised to hear that McConnell is married to the Secretary of Labor. I think this needs to be screamed from the rooftops. Elaine Chao is anti labor and anti union.

11. "Elaine Chao is anti labor and anti union"
We call people like that a SCAB in these parts.

And BTW, a "Democrat" from my state, Congressman Nick J. Rahall, II, voted against the rescue plan.

He had the union people fooled in West Virginia, but I don't think he will get all that union support next time he begs us for a job. He's no friend of mine anymore.
