Don't make it North vs South. Make it labor vs management
The point to use for Southern states is not South vs North. Use a labor vs management theme. The South went through a bloody time trying to form unions in the textile mills. Don't think that's forgotten. I don't think anybody down here forgets anything. Point out that those textile mills are closing and the jobs are outsourced overseas. It sure wasn't because of the high pay and unions that the mill owners did that.

I'd point out to those workers in those Southern auto factories that the only reason the plants are there is because the states fell all over each other offering huge tax breaks and concessions. If a time comes where they can determine that it will be more cost effective to move overseas, they will be gone in a heartbeat. Then Shelby, McConnell, DeMint and whoever else can hold their breath and pout, but those jobs won't be back.

McConnell was close to being defeated. DeMint and Graham both have so-so approval ratings. Start the North vs South theme and it will shoot up to 90%.
It is class warfare pure and simple. Start the shit on ALL Southerner meme and states will turn redder and any progress made will be lost.

15. Groan...
:eyes:

We Southerners know the outcome of the fucking Civil War. While some "men" like to play pretend and act as though they're soldiers, most of us down here know we're part of the United States.

Don't start the "I hate the South" shit, please. We're all in this together.

4. Has there been ANY talk about the executive pay structure and lowering it system-wide?
Not just the bonuses. But execs making millions a year taking cuts could save a whole lot of healthcare for workers.

13. Well, 99+% of us are in it together and of that number, only about
20% realize it.

It is the <1% against everybody else and since the majority don't even fight, the <1% (parasites) win.

17. No. Management and the executives are busy screwing workers everywhere.
So, no, they need to be out of it. Fuck those CEOS and their gigantic paychecks. Just fuck 'em. Maybe ever stick their heads on pikes while we're at it. THEY are the ones that drove these companies into the ground and should not be rewarded.

11. Has anyone bothered to look at how much Alabama & MS
paid as incentives to make it easier for their auto plants to survive?

If I recall correctly, in addition to tax incentives (as in don't worry about paying taxes on the buildings, equipment, etc) but the state actually helped to acquire the property wanted and the state built the roads and improved the infrastructure to accommodate the nissan plant.

I think the same thing can be said about Alabama.

So the "look how successful" argument needs to be tempered with "look how easy the republican govs made it for the auto plants to build in their states".

Additionally, if all the top management gives up their huge salaries (and I mean all) and if the top brass agrees to making a reasonable salary, then I think the auto workers should make similar compromises - not before.

18. That's going to be very hard for 3 reasons. The UAW has already aligned itself with management...
in this struggle. The other reasons are that many of the Senators who made stopped the bailout for which management and labor were united represent Southern states. Finally over the decades both labor and management have developed an animosity toward the companies that produce imports and these companies have established factories in the South, although their trend southward is no different than that of many US companies.
