That would be a tragedy, IMO. Whichever company that is: Get rid of any brand you like, but NOT the Pontiac.

16. AMEN!!
I'm in the market for an 88; came off the line looking like the base model v6, but had a v8350 in it.
If you see one let me know!

3. Bonnevilles are awsome roomy fun to drive family sports sedans
and get great mileage for their size.

I love them.

Pontiac is GM's fun to drive nameplate

4. You are begging for the life of a brand of car and you don't know who manufactures it?
GM by the way. Those Aztek's are great cars aren't they? :hide:

5. You are right, I am guilty. I was twelve years old and I became obsessed with the
black Trans Am with T tops.

I told my father, "If I ever have enough money, I'm going to get a black Trans Am with T-Tops."

Yeah, I know I was a stupid, ignorant kid, and still am.

I plead guilty.

11. The best car I ever owned
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 07:39 PM by DiktatrW
was a 76 Grand Prix, 400 V-8, 60-40 split bucket seats and power like a demon.

I'm still waiting for something that compares.

12. No Worries
When I was a kid my family would travel from Los Angeles to San Diego almost every weekend to see family. I would spend the trip naming make and model of cars along the way. I wanted a Trans-Am too.

8. Same here. Saturn COULD have been what saved GM's butt.
But no, some idiot decided about 4-5 years ago to abandon what made them unique (affordable, no-hassle, dependable vehicles) and become just another branch of GM.

17. Absolutely
They never promoted Saturn as they should have. They treated it like a step-child. Between my husband and myself we have owned four of them. I am driving a 1994 SC1 and it is a great car as is our 2005 Vue. Both of these were lease cars that we liked so much we didn't turn them in. I feel we are being abandoned.

Saturns and Saabs don't. It seems pretty logical to kill Pontiac.

9. In all the restructuring plans, Pontiac is one of the ones on the chopping block

A Pontiac was my first (and second) car also so I feel your pain.

with lightning speed, unfortunately it was stolen and totalled. A gas-guzzler to be sure, but Lord I loved that car.

15. Agreed. I'd like to see Pontiac become a smaller, niche marque.
The G8 is brilliant. The Solstice could have been if they had given it some actual horsepower at that price point.

20. You could realign GM to look more like Ford, Mercury, Lincoln
Instead of Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac you could get rid of Buick (often seen as an old fart mobile) and have Pontiac be a source of more luxurious/sporty Chevrolets (depending on platform)

21. Name branding within GM is absurd - there is no difference between a Pontiac and a Chevrolet
They are all made under the constraints of the same managerial umbrella and the hands of UAW labor made from parts from the same suppliers and in the end mostly financed by the same sister organization (GMAC).

How about this for an alternative: Dump all the brand names, call them all GMC, and concentrate on just a few existing models that make sense and new models that meet changing circumstances.

So you end up with whatever commercial trucks they might still make - or not - followed by the consumer line of products. They might end up with two pickup trucks, one large series because there really is a need for such things in agriculture and construction and they really are and will continue to be sellers for just those purposes), then there will probably be at least one limited production large car (not of the 1959 Cadillac sort, more like today's GTS), one somewhere in the middle, and then of course the lineup of extremely efficient models made primarily for urban use. If they did that we might even be tempted to let them keep the Corvette.

22. GM makes the Pontiac and it's a good seller.
IF they have to whack a brand I vote for Buicks. Pretty soon most of those who actually buy Buicks will be dead anyway.

24. My experience as a former owner of a Pontiac Phoenix ensured
that I would never own a Pontiac again. That car siphoned the money out of my bank account regularly.
