Pastor says: No work, no food. (Also, no legal protections for gays.)

Ken Hutcherson is the notorious asshole who tried to bully Microsoft into silence on anti-gay discrimination.

Recently he commented on the tent-cities for the homeless in Seattle:

"Our Saviour died to keep us off the cross. I don't think he'd be satisfied keeping us in tents," Pastor Ken Hutcherson of Antioch Bible Church in Redmond, Wash., said.

"I think the Bible gives it to us straight, if you don't work, you don't eat," he said. "We're supposed to give hands up, not hand outs to the point of letting people stay the way they are."

He seems to think people living like this need to be told to work:

He's the same Ken Hutcherson who claimed he was made a Special Envoy for Adoptions, Family Values, Religious Freedom, and Medical Relief by the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. The White House denied this, and Hutcherson responded that they were lying. In fairness to Hutcherson, it's hard to know who is the bigger liar - him or the Bush White House.

Finally, here he is with his pals opposing the Mathew Shepherd Act:

1. Sing-A-Long Time. The Preacher and The Slave by Joe Hill
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 09:40 AM by no_hypocrisy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0p6_g9GapM

Long-haired preachers come out every night,
Try to tell you what's wrong and what's right;
But when asked how 'bout something to eat
They will answer with voices so sweet:

CHORUS:
You will eat, bye and bye,
In that glorious land above the sky;
Work and pray, live on hay,
You'll get pie in the sky when you die.

The starvation army they play,
They sing and they clap and they pray
'Till they get all your coin on the drum
Then they'll tell you when you're on the bum:

Holy Rollers and jumpers come out,
They holler, they jump and they shout.
Give your money to Jesus they say,
He will cure all diseases today.
If you fight hard for children and wife --
Try to get something good in this life --
You're a sinner and bad man, they tell,
When you die you will sure go to hell.

Workingmen of all countries, unite,
Side by side we for freedom will fight;
When the world and its wealth we have gained
To the grafters we'll sing this refrain:

FINAL CHORUS:
You will eat, bye and bye,
When you've learned how to cook and to fry.
Chop some wood, 'twill do you good,
And you'll eat in the sweet bye and bye.

4. There was an episode of Kate & Allie back in the 1980's where
one of the two women was busy delivering something and she lost her purse in NYC. She wasn't well-dressed, someone spilt booze on her, and the only way home was to panhandle. She was treated with terrible disdain. She grew hungry during the day. She lived less than a day in the shoes of a homeless person. Very difficult indeed. I don't even remember how she made it home -- I think she walked.

The episode was a brilliant reminder of how close any and all of us are to being cold and hungry. If only Ken Hutcherson understood that.

5. Ken Hutcherson is just using his position for his own fame and I'd assume $ as well.
He's just a lying attention whore.

8. Exactly. And I heard him on the radio saying that he think the laws that prevent churches
from advocating for politicians AND being tax exempt inhibit his free speech.

He failed to acknowledge that he can just drop his tax exempt status and advocate for anyone he likes.

9. Hutcherson is abysmally ignorant of his own scriptures
But everyone who has ever heard of him probably knows that already. A few quotes he never bothered to read:

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Isaiah 58:6-7

If a man is righteous and does what is lawful and right -- if he does not eat upon the mountains or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor's wife or approach a woman in her time of impurity, does not oppress any one, but restores to the debtor his pledge, commits no robbery, gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment, does not lend at interest or take any increase, withholds his hand from iniquity, executes true justice between man and man, walks in my statutes, and is careful to observe my ordinances -- he is righteous, he shall surely live, says the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 18:5-9

Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."

And the disciples said to him, "Where are we to get bread enough in the desert to feed so great a crowd?"

And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves have you?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish."

And commanding the crowd to sit down on the ground, e took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over.

Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

Matthew 15:32-38

"If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

Matthew 19:21

"One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

Luke 18:22

And all who believed were together and had all things in common; and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need.

Acts 2:44-45

Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common.

Acts 4:32

And my personal favorite:

When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.

Then the King will say to those at his right hand, "Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me."

Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?"

And the King will answer them, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

Then he will say to those at his left hand, "Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me."

Then they also will answer, "Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?"

Then he will answer them, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me."

And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Matthew 25:31-46

11. God helps he who helps himself. My sister said. I asked,
Where is that in the BIBLE AGAIN? She says that it isnt. But it still is her core belief. I say, if that is all God is good for, he can go to hell. This skewed view of religion is a red herring for legitimacy. An attempt to face headon the obvious. That christianity is all aboout mercy. They would face many questions, had they not adopted the mantle of religious, while being major scrooges with policy. They are EVIL. In the best pharisee sense. They are the same guys that tried to trap Jesus by asking about the poor. I would like to learn of where those fucks go next. I would get face to face. I have heart failure. And I would tear his head off. In front of his followers. Those are the enemy. Note well their names. As this country goes down, they are the ones that must be crushed.

12. these guys love to quote out of context.
the scripture he's obliquely referring to was from the early church, when people all paid in everything they had and it was redistributed according to need. The situation was someone in the church who was not helping out once they joined, content to eat off of everyone else's work.

that's a very different situation from the homeless. The church situation was essentially a group that agreed to come together and pool resources, there was a buy in and an agreement.
The homeless are the poor and indigent, which Jesus says to take care of.

I shudder to see this preacher's first meeting with Jesus in the afterlife.

"When I was clothed, you did not cover me, when I was hungry, you did not feed me..."
"But Lord, when did I see you hungry or unclothed?"
"In that you have done this to the least of us.....

many of these preachers should go back to the bible and start reading for comprehension.
