For Smokers Only - Fire Safe Cigarettes
I hope this hasn't been posted to death. I haven't been able to get my star back yet so, can't search.

How many of you knew this was coming? I just unsuspectingly bought my first carton of FSC cigs. I'm like, what the hell, why is my cigarette going out all the time? Why do they taste like crap all of a sudden? I called RJR for coupons today and found out what the fuck is going on. What chemicals are in our cigarettes now?!?!?!? I know there are supposedly "bands" of extra paper but, that shouldn't make them taste so shitty. I heard talk of chemicals added but, don't know much more about that. I also ran across a lot of posts, doing a quick google, about how sick they are making people.

I guess there are 20 or so states that already only sell FSCs. Iowa is one, of course. I think all the rest will follow shortly. WI has to by later next year.

Does anyone have more info on this? Particularly any "new" chemicals that were added. Are we all going to just accept this and fork over big bucks to smoke these shitty things? I've found just one petition so far. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/fire-safe-cigarettes. Is there any recourse for those of us who CHOOSE to smoke? And want our old cigarettes back? Any info or input would be greatly appreciated!

The usual note to anti-smokers: If you don't like what's being said in this thread, please just move along. Some of us WANT to smoke. It's our choice. This isn't a debate about smokers vs non-smokers.

This is totally pissing me off!!!!!

Thank you!

1. Hmm, I was told there were chemicals in cigs that
KEPT them lit. Canadian cigs would go out if you put them down. I'm confused.

15. My sister who is a smoker said the same thing. Sent me an article which I can't find
but she said our ATF Bureau put some new paper on the cigs and it makes her sick. See my post below.

2. American Spirits have been like since at least the 90's
when I switched to them. You get used to it (the going out part).

3. I never heard of them! I've been buying mine online for so many years,
I have no idea what they're selling here in Ga. AFAIK, things like FSC are not even available on the sites where I buy mine. I just placed a new order today and didn't see any notes about them.

Here's what I was just reading. Gotta be more chemicals in them. Lots of people getting sick. http://www.blueoregon.com/2007/01/firesafe_cigare.html

Here's more info re which states made it law so far: http://www.firesafecigarettes.org/categoryList.asp?categoryID=9&URL=Home%20-%20The%20Coalition%20for%20Fire%20Safe%20Cigarettes

I'll see what else I can find in a bit!

5. These have been the only kind sold in California since the start of 07
They suck.

They taste like they use tar in the paper to make them burn out if you dont keep puffing on them.

9. ***************** Make your OWN!!! ******************
www.tobaccostation.com you will feel better and the stuff is quality.

I have been using them for 3 years now. Machines are rugged I need to replace it however as its made over 12k smokes.. I dont smoke them all the way or resmoke old cigs as these are so cheap I can afford them without bother. It makes you feel better and you will find it really easy to make them. I can make a pack of smokes in about 60 seconds.

The machines are very easy to use and precise :)

These smokes do not go OUT!!! BE VERY CAREFUL YOU CAN BURN YOUR SHIT DOWN!!! THEY ARE DANGEROUS IF YOU DONT PAY ATTENTION!!! THEY CONTAIN NO CHEMICALS TO SNUFF THEM!!!

Get a Humidor of some kind as well dry tobacco is harsh. I keep the unrolled tobacco in a humid environment. If done right you dont have to worry about mold

10. What's funny is that if a cigarette is made out of tobacco, only tobacco
And not the other 1400 chemicals and additives, it is fire safe. The reason that most cigarettes burn, and burn so quickly, is because of the additives. Take a cigarette, like say a Sherman's or an American Spirit, that has no additives. Light it, take a drag, put it in an ashtray. Within a couple of minutes it's out.

So now they're wanting the big brands to put in more chemicals to counteract the chemicals that they've already put in:wtf: Sounds like a bad idea to me, no wonder they taste like shit.

11. Law requires smokes to snuff. Even American Spirit.
I guess due to houses burning down or something

12. That's what Spirits do
They go out by themselves, not due to chemical additives or special paper, but simply due to their lack of additives. Whereas your average Marlboro will keep on burning and burning.

14. There is something bad going on. My sister, a smoker says the new "paper" is making
her sick. She says it smells and she's been coughing and had sinus problems. I know folks would say it's because she smokes but she says the "paper the cigs are wrapped in are thicker" and they all come in "boxes now" which makes you pay more but there's something wrong with the cigarettes and she thinks it's that new stuff FDA says is put in the paper wrapper of the cigs to "extinguish" so you don't fall asleep and set your house on fire. I read an article about it the ATF putting new paper rolls on the cigs..but since I'm not a smoker I didn't save it. She says they changed something.

Maybe she should just quit smoking now. But, given what she says she pays in taxes for her cigs...would seem that someone should investigate this...since smoking is still legal as is drinking and buying booze.

I don't know.
