Overheard in Wal*Mart
Okay... okay... don't give me a bunch of shit but I went into my local Walmart. S-I-G-H! BUT I did go in there and this is what I overheard in the sporting goods section (I was there buying the small Blue ice packs for my kids lunch box...) 3 young men with military style haircuts (in their late 20's early 30's) were standing in front of the ammunition with a sales clerk. 1st guy says to the other two guys - "Do you think we should just buy it all?" a short pause... 2nd guy says "All of it?" 1st guy, answering "Hell yeah, looks like we are going to need it." The sales clerk says "You going on a hunting trip?" 3rd guy answers "Nah, we know we wont be able to buy guns and ammo once that S.O.B.'s president." The clerk, an older African American gentleman stood there, looking over the top of his glasses and shook his head... He looked right at them and says "I voted for that S.O.B. and I believe your fear of losing your guns and ammunition is totally unwarranted but if you want to spend your money on it, it's fine with me."

I started cracking up as I walked past them... it was classic. The three guys bought a bunch of assorted ammunition - I wonder if they are storing it in the shed next to the chemical fertilizer?

17. I heard a similar discussion...and yes,
in Walmart. It ended with one redneck type saying..."if he tries to take my guns away, I will sure give them to him...one bullet at a time" Sometimes I wonder what i am doing on this planet...must have been some huge cosmic error.

the Enclave was run by POTUS, so you be the judge :P

As far as the FEV, it could refer to overmedication in general, forcing people to become things they aren't. After all, not all who came in contact with FEV turned into SuperMutants, Harold definately wasn't super.

I'll take nuclear winter if only I can listen to Louis Armstrong while it happens.

we could go into the business of manufacturing fallout shelters and secretly place locks and sensors in all of the models. If we really wanted to be smart about it, we could also manufacture a "situation" where the wingnuts would all feel the need to run to their shelters at once, then LOCK!

well you know the rest.

Ironically most of them are already gun owners and have all the ammo they will need. Of course the price will not get jacked up at any time...that's just all in their head...but put yourself in the worst possible scenario...

Supposing the crap hit the fan...and they needed those weapons for some kind of FReeped up survivalist reason. Imagine the scenario: living in some kind of post apocalyptic hell...moving like a para-militant survivalist...scrounging for food.

Other than buying the different types of firearms (revolver, semi-automatic handgun, shotgun, Rifle) to suit a need one has to ask the question:

1. How many can you carry with you at any given moment with ease?
2. How much ammunition can you carry with you at any given moment with ease?
3. How many can you shoot at the same time with any reliable aim?

As Carlos Mencia put it "Dee de dee"...someone taking away their guns...Jesus what scared little planet do these assclowns live on.

this ammunition will be spent on somebody's back forty for "stump removal" long before the second amendment gets diminished

90. Depends on the type of ammunition you buy
A lot of ammo has a fairly limited shelf life - probably 20 years at most. Me, I've got some ammo that should easily last for a century before my heirs think about replacing it. The drawback is that it's somewhat corrosive, which means you'd better make double-sure that your gun is clean and spotless after use, unless you want pits to eat into the bore and action.

13. Slightly off topic
Don't personalize the public approbation for Wal-Mart. If you're shopping there, let's assume that we all know what a horrible corporate citizen Wal-Mart is, but that the folks who shop there either (a) don't care; or (2) don't have a choice. Scoring the people who shop at Wal-Mart doesn't affect people in category (a), and isn't really fair to people in category (2). Let's save our vitriol and approbation for the corporate entity that has earned it.

A rumor that liberals were massing in Oaklahoma to overthrow the Second Amendment could result in the gun nuts rushing there and opening fire on each other. I am sure that Rush, Hannity and O'Reilly would be more than glad to "substantiate" it as fact.

61. 10 years ago he campaigned on gun control including raising taxes on some ammo.

Chicago Defender, Dec. 13, 1999 where it is proported to have been reported:

Obama is also seeking to increase the federal taxes by 500 percent on the sale of firearm, ammunition -- weapons he says are most commonly used in firearm deaths.

But he hasn't said anything about this since. Presumably he's come to his senses.

Interestingly enough FactCheck will only say that the NRA's claims that he will raise taxes on ammo are UNCERTAIN, and not FALSE.

I hope this run on guns and ammo sends a signal to the Obama administration that new gun control may be very unwelcome. The customers in the story wobviously did not vote for Obama, but I did, and I'm buying guns and ammo, too.

67. The NRA is spreading this BS
about PE Obama.

They did so during the entire campaign.

" He'll take away your right to own a firearm!!"

Truth, they don't need the truth-
it gets in their way.

:(

69. Funny part I figure with metal prices crashing
Ammo will probably start to come down in price. At least I hope so(I go through 500-1000 rounds a month from April-Oct in competiton shooting of 9mm). But I'm wondering if it will stay high with these fools keep buying it in a Y2K like panic!

That was another result of the Bush Admin & his friggin' wars. Ammo prices skyrocketed through the roof last few years!

78. Oddly enough,
I was in Wal-Mart last month after the election to purchase two guns and some ammunition.
The same guys you describe were at the counter, but also at the counter was another Obama voter in addition to myself.
The clerk said many recent customers have been Obama voters.
This particular Wal-Mart was practically Sold Out.

The other Obama voter and myself calmly reassured the others that The Democrats weren't going to take away any guns from law abiding citizens. Then the clerk, an educated man in his 50's who had obviously seen better employment said something very interesting:
"The Government won't be taking away guns, but they WILL make them more expensive. The Government won't want The Poor to have guns."
I didn't respond to his comment, but have been thinking about it recently.

We have recently relocated to a very rural part of a Red State.
After the election, we checked our precinct vote tally, and were delighted to find that out of 281 votes cast, 87 were for Obama.....87 of our neighbors up in these hills voted for The Black Guy!
(We were expecting single digit totals for Obama.)

Gun ownership is a necessity here for protection of stock, pets, and family. The guns have been on our "must purchase" list for two years. This election combined with a recent increase in varmint attacks on our Chicken House, and a marauding bear on a neighbors property provided the extra incentive to go ahead with the purchase.

Since the election and guns purchase, we (my wife & I) have set up a target range and become competent and comfortable with the use of the guns. My wife had never previously shot a gun. After the initial aversion to the loud BANG wore off, she said, "You know, this is kinda fun".
A fringe benefit of the practice range is that neighbors within hearing distance know we are armed.

from coyotes and foxes, but what are you protecting your family from? Just what kind of people areyour neighbors, anyways?

79. same thing going on around here
guys that i work with-who should know better

buying guns and ammo like there is no tommorrow.

so same time this year-when nothing has happened and the gun shops start to close because
these guys still have 8 million rounds in their closet and 3 rifles still in the box.
Will we and obama be blamed all over again because WE are somehow putting these stores out of business?

Can't wait for the first story of a house fire when some clowns "just in case" supplies explodes
like an ammo dump in a WWII war movie.

81. Hopefully guns and ammo will continue to be sold...
another Assault Weapons Ban or other draconian gun laws will merely bring out the gun supporters to the polls come election day. They've made the difference in past elections and may return to haunt the Democratic Party again.

During this election, the Democrats avoided pushing the gun control issue and McCain wasn't exactly a favorite of gun owners. Bush had managed to screw things up so bad that many pro-gun voters just didn't bother to show up to vote.

If the Democratic Party focuses its efforts on taking illegal guns out of the hands of criminals and criminal drug gangs we may see a decrease in crime in this country. If they continue to push "feel good" laws like the AWB which accomplish nothing they will lose seats in the mid term election and possibly endanger Obama's chances of winning two terms.

But actually attempting to take guns from criminals is difficult, dangerous and expensive. It's much easier to pass laws which restrict or take guns away from honest citizens. Who cares that it doesn't accomplish much if anything. The politicians can stand on the steps of Congress and pat themselves on the back in front of the cameras. They can say that they are actually doing something important in the war on crime. The base of the Democratic Party which lives in the large anti-gun cities will cheer.

Pro-gun Democrats like me will find themselves attempting to defend the actions of the party and making excuses which will only draw ridicule from pro-gun Republicans. Most of my shooting friends will be saying, "See, we told you what would happen!" I will counter with the argument that while the Democrats are wrong on guns, they are right on the majority of the other issues.

It's hard to stand up for the Democratic Party when they push gun control. I hope I don't have to try it again.

83. Here's hoping you're right...
but I wouldn't underestimate the ability of the "assault weapon" bait-and-switch to sway the gullible. I didn't think it would pass in 1994, either (and got burned big-time as a result).

That's why there's legislation on the books to prevent confiscation of guns during natural disasters from ever happening again. Obama, BTW, voted to end the confiscations.
