Japan has another nuclear event - fire this time

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=eng

Area: Japan, Niigata Prefecture, Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, Kashiwazaki

A fire broke out at a nuclear power plant in northern Japan and a worker was sickened by smoke inhalation, but there was no release of radioactivity, the plant operator said Monday. A small fire broke out at a turbine facility at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear complex during welding of pipes aimed at enhancing quake resistance, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said in a statement. A worker was sickened from inhaling smoke, but not seriously, said the company, known as TEPCO. The fire was extinguished within one hour and there was no radiation leak from the incident, the company said. The cause of the fire was under investigation, TEPCO said. The nuclear power complex, which suffered extensive damage in an earthquake last year, has been out of service and undergoing repairs.
-----------------------------------

they have been having one thing or the other happen in their nuke plants for some time.

don't think its just happening in Japan. our nuke plants have fires and explosions, etc. all the time too.

nuke plants should NOT have fires, explosions, leaks, etc. period. only on very rare occasions if at all.

1. Sigh...how many times will Tokyo be destroyed by giant radioactive monsters...
...before the Japanese learn to take better care of their nuclear stockpiles?

3. I am, but I've also seen "Dr. Strangelove"...
...which proves that jokes about nuclear catastrophe have been around almost as long as the nukes themselves.

4. And coal fired plants shouldn't pollute and kill the miners
and gas and oil fired plants shouldn't destroy the countryside with drilling rigs, and wind farms shouldn't make that annoying noise, kill birds and spoil our view of the bay and hydroelectric dams shouldn't endanger the Snail Darter. And on and on and on.

I only wish I could power my stuff with the "magic fairy dust" that you use, but it hasn't gotten to some of us poor slobs yet.

8. I don't see a nuclear "event". This is a false headline
It was a welding sparked fire at the turbines, which are not radioactive, and are seen in oil, gas, and coal powered plants. And the plant wasn't operating at the time.

9. It was a fire, they break out at industrial facilities all the time. Nothing to do with nuclear
No place should have fires, you're right about that, but it says quite clearly this happened in a place where welding was being done and that alone should have told you that this was no more and no less than a routine industrial event that has nothing what so ever to do with it happening at a nuclear facility and there is no indication that anything related to a nuclear release happened so all you are doing is riling up fear and loathing for nuclear-whatever when there is no cause for it. You should be ashamed of yourself.

cause for celebration, I've been told by smart people here. :sarcasm:

and the fire was quickly extinguished.
