Why can't the "real" media be like Jon Stewart?
How come he can actually call Bolton out on the carpet and stick it to him about the bullshit that is going on but the rest of the asswipes in the MSM pander to the administration?

And how, realizing this, can ANYBODY say we have a liberal media?

Thank you, Jon. At least somebody is acting like a journalist.

9. Don't mean to nit pick, but they are not in bed with corporations
They are owed by them. There is no such thing as an independent paper or news organization anymore. They all belong to a few corporations who are in bed with the Conservatives.

13. OWED? More like OWNED. They're slaves, forced into bed with their masters.
I'm talking the journalists, the talking heads on the tee vee. They're more concerned with their daily bread, in the form of multi-million dollar salaries for reading the fucking news, basically, than having integrity (how quaint) or being authentic as a person.

They have the ability to effect their own emancipation, but they're chained by sheer greed.

16. OMG! I meant owned.
I usually check my stuff twenty times, but was hurrying that time and let it slip through. And I thought about the slave in the bed with the master thing also. Great minds think alike I guess, although I am probably insulting you by saying you think anything like I do. ;-)

You are so correct on everything you just said. Now have to go to pick up my daughter. bye.:hi:

5. It's interesting to note how the Corporate Media strives for the infotainment model.
But they end up being tedious, charmless, and mediocre.

And worse of all, we get propaganda and agendas, emotion, fear, and forced opinions instead of news.

even if they claim to be. He goes after both sides even though he might lean a little left of center, tonight just happened to be the republicans turn.

Being balanced did not mean roll over and play dead until the last few years. You may be too young to remember real news.

8. MSM journalists work @ mainstream Corporate giants - practically zero real 'independence'
when news organizations - broadcast media - became profit centers versus the true 'fifth column' independence was replaced in great part by Corporate policy and doing what would get them access to the highest corridors of power.

21. Pravda means "truth"
Back in the days of the USSR, the Soviet people by and large knew they were being lied to by the state owned media. They accepted the fact and made the best of things, "reading between the lines" became both a science and an art form. The American people by and large are not so much aware that they are being lied to but those who are aware find solace in the humor of Stewart and Colbert.

Black humor was also an art form in the USSR and was often used subversively.

A person on a bus tells a joke: "Do you know why policemen always go in pairs?" / "No, why?" / "It's specialization: one knows how to read, the other - how to write." / A hand promptly grabs him by the shoulder — a policeman is standing right behind him! "Your papers!" he barks. The hapless person surrenders his papers. The policeman opens them, reads, and nods to his partner: "Write him up a citation, Vasya."

An intelligence test was conducted among the OMON (Russian SWAT and riot police units) involving variously shaped and sized holes and pegs. The conclusion states that the OMON can be divided into two groups: extremely stupid and extremely strong.

Rabinovich, is an archetypal Russian Jew. He is a crafty type, hates the Soviet government, often too smart for his own good and is sometimes portrayed as an otkaznik (refusenik): someone who is refused permission to emigrate to Israel.

* Rabinovich fills out a job application form. The official is skeptical: "You stated that you don't have any relatives abroad, but you do have a brother in Israel." / "Yes but he isn't abroad, I am abroad!"

* Seeing a pompous and lavish burial of a member of the Politburo, Rabinovich sadly shakes his head: "What a waste! I could have buried the whole Politburo with this kind of money!"

* Rabinovich calls Pamyat headquarters, speaking with a characteristic accent: "Tell me, is it true that Jews sold Russia?"/ "Yes, of course it is true, you Jewish snout!"/ "Oh good! Could you please tell me where I should go to get my share?"

22. Well according to Dan Rather...
its because the MSM content is controlled by execs who believe that ratings are only favorable if you provide entertainment. Hence, most news today is geared toward being entertaining. Point in case the endless hours of lost blonds, Jessica Simpson, et al. Or the short sound bites that will get folks all worked up without forcing them to actually think. After all, thats the point of entertainment... being able to sit back and enjoy without too many mental gymnastics.

He went on to say, that shows like RealTime and The Daily Show don't have to focus on being entertaining (they are comedy shows by definition) so that allows their principals to be more "edgy" in calling things as they see fit. Hence why we like them better.

So if you want MSM to report more like Keith, Bill, or Jon... let them know you don't appreciate having news packaged as entertainment.

25. Some are finally learning to play archival clips, so as to compare previous statements...
...by public figures at odds with current claims.

Of course, Jon does it with way more style than anyone but KO, but KO is doing quite well with the technique and I've even seen it done on (sorry I can't remember quite which) ABC/CBS/NBC.

Calling liars on their lies is something the MSM has been incredibly slow to do, as we all know, but now that they smell blood the pack seems to be turning. We can only hope.

26. On Tuesday I watched The View,
I only watch it for their Hot Topics segment. They had on Rory Kennedy, director of the doc 'Ghosts of Abu Ghraib'. In spite of Hasselback's bizzare interogation of the guest, I couldn't believe they actually were allowing the info out to the public that the guest was saying; only a few token people were prosecuted, it was higher ups giving orders, we only saw the tip of the iceberg, and the kicker that torture isn't even effective. This to the same audience that cares deeply about American Idol contestants. I thought the screen was going to go black followed by a 'we apologize for tech difficulties' sign.

Every once in a while, actual news gets out, although, maybe pointedly, in this case again, not a news show.

At this point, I'd settle for a fair media as opposed to the Republican apparatchik that we currently "enjoy".
