Ireland is having a HAZMAT problem - toxic pork

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=eng

Area: Ireland, , Statewide,

All Irish pork products have been recalled from stores after the discovery of a toxic substance in slaughtered pigs. Animal feed contaminated with harmful toxins is understood to have infected pig products, including foods sold across Ireland and exported to the UK. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland revealed pork products on a number of farms were found to have up to 200 times more dioxins than the recognised safety limit. The recall affects all products produced since September 1. Consumers and retailers have been warned to destroy all Irish pork and bacon products bought since that date. It is feared the recall could cripple the country's 400 pig farmers in the run up to Christmas. Pig farming is the fourth biggest sector in Irish agriculture and is worth around 400 million euro to the Irish economy which is already in the midst of a recession. A government spokeswoman said laboratory results of animal feed and pork at samples confirmed the presence of dioxins. "Investigations involving the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (DAFF) and the FSAI are continuing to determine the extent of the contamination and to identify the processors and products involved," she said. "Dioxins are environmental contaminants that may be formed during combustion processes and may be present in industrial wastes. It is illegal for dioxins at certain levels to be in food products."

1. Is their feed acquired from China? Are we buying any of it from the same source?
I have absolutely no faith in our FDA... or any other safety administration running under the current regime.

4. My point exactly.
How many would have to be sickened/hospitalized prior to discovery?

Watch for huge sales on pork products coming up as they try to move stock quickly... ;( :tinfoilhat:
