Foxnews and Headline News is just the most visual components, but the REAL vitriol is on talk radio, which is on many places every day.
When I hear Washington Journal, I hear NOTHING that I haven't heard on talk radio.
You might remember Orson Wells' War of the World, but we're told people weren't "sophisticated" back then.
Ideas change minds. Present those ideas with a deep, authoritative voice, wrap it those ideas with catchy bumper music and stick in some common sense and flattery, and you'll have people believing that pigs live in trees.
If their friends are listening, then you have your peer pressure and reinforcement.
When my mother lived in Arlington, VA, I used to drive down from South Jersey via I-95. Even on that most traveled highway between Philadelphia, Baltimore and DC, there were long parts which I could only get religious stations and right wing talk radio.
Even in Philadelphia, which is the 5th largest market in the country, probably voted 90% Democratic, we don't have a SINGLE true liberal talk radio station, outside of NPR/BBC. We have a sports talk station, and a FEW Hispanic stations and a FEW religious stations, and a station which has cycling programming for Polish, French, and Russian, so it's not as if you need a giant audience with national advertisers to get programming on the radio.
I guess it must be nice to have satellite radio, and have a CHOICE, but the a BIG part of America, the voices they hear are telling them what you're hearing on Washington Journal.
