Deja Vu - Watergate
Bush's blatant defiance and daring threats to Congress are classic Nixonian tactics. This thing is setting up to be a constitutional crisis. Unfortunately the real losers will be the GOP, since this is going to splinter the Party to bits. (Too bad - so sad) One of two things will have to happen. Either Chimpo is going to relent (not likely to happen, because he knows that if Rove and Miers testify he will be implicated in the entire USA mess), or Congress will appoint a Special Prosecutor who will will then expose the entire can of worms which will force an impeachment or more likely a resignation. Bushco is now a huge liability for the GOP and with 21 GOP Senators up for re-election in '08 the rats are going to have to abandon ship.

1. This time though the Supreme Court is on their side
the fascist takeover is complete. How can we win in court if there is a showdown? I think Dems should fight to the bitter end...I just don't see the Supreme Court abandoning their Dark Master.

3. But then again....
would the Supreme Court set themselves up as a dictatorship themselves? They don't have much time before a Democrat takes the Oath of Office in Jan 2009 - perhaps burning bridges is not the way to go.

6. The Court of Public Opinion Will Settle It
Ultimately its you and I who will have the last say. Even the dumbest of us can smell a cover-up and the more Bushco digs in its heals the worse it will look. The Dems in Congress will have a field day with this one. Whatever base Bushco has left will further erode to a point that the GOP'ers on the Hill will be begging for a surrender. I just think that Chimpo and Company are so dirty that anything that reveals the real dirt will result in their downfall. They know this and have to use any stall tactic they can to run out the clock. But I think the Congress will ultimately win this battle.

4. Frankly, I think the problem might be that he was truly *not* in the loop
and that the phrase about how the USAs serve "at the President's pleasure" loses all meaning if indeed the decisions were made wholly without his knowledge or input.

7. Not him, but his surrogate Rove
Everything that went down on this scandal has Rove's finger prints all over it. And you know that Rove surely bragged to his highness about the dirty deeds.

8. Yes, but the USAttys do no serve at Rove's pleasure
This reeks of how Bush *gave* Cheney declassification authority in the Plame situation.

Did he also give Rove "Presidential pleasure" power?

Can Rove act as surrogate in such cases?

This might be part of the problem.
