Panicky (Kashmir)Border Residents Reconstruct Underground Bunkers
War Worries Grip Kupwara

Machil, Kupwara, Dec 04: Apprehending end of India-Pakistan border ceasefire following the recent terror strikes in Mumbai, the residents of Machil and adjoining areas along Line of Control (LoC) have started repairing and reconstructing the underground bunkers to escape the cross border shelling.

India has accused elements in Pakistan of being responsible for the worst ever terror strikes in India. At least 176 people including 20 police officials, men and 2 NSG commandos were killed in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last week.

The Pakistani officials have denied the terror links and have threatened to withdraw one lakh troops from Afghanistan border for their deployment along Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir if India launches strikes.
The residents of Machil, Lashdet, Dudi, Reng, Chuntwari, Dabbel and Batpora in border district of Kupwara are highly apprehensive about the continuity of the ceasefire.

They said, “Though there is no war like activity or increase of army personnel in the border areas but the hard posturing of India and Pakistan leaders have created panic among us. We apprehend that the border ceasefire, which has been in effect from November 2003, will be called-off”.

“We know whenever Indo-Pak leadership have talked tough and given harsh statements the war clouds have loomed large,” said a retired army man, Mohammad Samander Khan of Machil.

Khan said that he and other villagers have started renovating the underground bunkers.
